My mind has been running overdrive since the gunshot that went off early this morning.
Maddy left Alicia and I quite quickly to go investigate, which led to Alicia taking me outside, and sitting by the water fountain with a young boy, who was extremely frightened.

"Are you okay Angie?" Alicia asks for the hundredth time since we woke up.

"Yes. I'm fine" I say not 100% listening to what she has to say.

"Are you sure ca-" she begins to say before I cut her off.

"I've told you so many times now. I. Am. Fine!" I yell at her,  almost immediately regretting it.
"Sorry it's just. I've been thinking and, I don't think Chris was going to hurt us" I say, but that only gives me an eye roll in response.

"He had a knife!" Alicia retorts back, but our banter is soon cut off by Travis coming over to us.

"Have you seen Chris? I can't find him" Travis says, panic evident in his voice.
"Help me look for him. I'm gonna check outside. Can either of you just-"

"No" Alicia says fiercely, cutting Travis off mid sentence, him giving her a baffled look.

"Travis, he had a knife!" Alicia exclaims standing up and taking steps closer to him, but I don't dare move, or utter a word.
"The shot went off, he was in our room standing over Angie with a knife, his hand over her mouth so she couldn't make a sound"

With that Travis' gaze snaps to me, myself looking at the ground, not wanting to be dragged into any of this mess.

"Stop. He would never hurt you." Travis says to Alicia who just scoffs.
"Angel. He wouldn't hurt you. He, he means well he just-" Travis tries to say but Alicia cuts him off again, myself looking at the both of them.

"Do you think I'm lying?" She asks, causing Travis to sigh.
"Angel. Please. Help me look for him. I know that he would never intentionally hurt you. He- He loves you and he only wants you to feel the same. But if none of you will help me I'll do it myself"
And with that Travis runs down the path that's leads out into the once cornfields.

"Don't go" Alicia warns as she sees me contemplating what to do.
My minds races and my heart pounds as I come to the conclusion of what I'm going to do.

"I'm sorry" I say before I stand up, and take off down the path towards where Travis went, my shoes slapping the bricks, Alicia yelling from behind me.

The air is cold and the sky is dark, from it being extremely early in the morning.
I stand alone at the edge of the field not exactly knowing what to do because of the fact I can't see Travis anywhere.
But that's when I hear it.
In the distance I hear Travis calling out for his son in panic and concern.
'Oh what the hell'
I think as I run through the field, following the voice of Travis hoping, praying that he continues to call out for his son.

My breathing gets harder and harder to get back the longer I run, my legs burning too, myself seriously considering that I should have run a lot more before all of this shit happened.

"Chris!?" I hear a voice yell once again, but this time not too far away. The sun is just peeking over the horizon, myself knowing that soon, I'll be able to see a whole lot better that before.

~

The dirt and occasional rock crunches under my foot as I continue heading in the direction from where I heard the voice, also now regretting that I didn't tie my hair up.
Time carries on and on, the sun getting higher and higher, my hope of finding them getting smaller and smaller.
Panic soon sets in with the fact that as I walk further and further away from the house, I have no idea where I'm heading nor do I have any idea of where I have to go to get back.
