"So what if the jerkface has a girlfriend." Elsie shrugged her shoulders as if it weren't a big deal. "Are you going to really let that damper your mood so bad it'll ruin our girls night out?"

It really shouldn't have been a big deal, but I was thoroughly annoyed. Annoyed that I actually kind of liked the guy and allowed myself to fall victim to his mind games. More so, I was angry at myself for being so naive, I allowed Lorenzo Alvarez to crack my defenses. Sitting back against the booth, I let out a frustrated sigh. Rolling my eyes at Elsie, Kammie, and Roxy I picked up my double shot of whiskey and downed it in one gulp.

The moment the plane landed, I already had my mind made up. As much as I love my father, there's no way I'm ever volunteering to take his place when it comes to his business again. There are employees that make a hell of alot of money to handle things in his absence and it's about time they start doing so.

"There, happy?" I asked plastering a fake smile on my lips, I slid out of the booth and mumbled. "Going to get some more alcohol. Looks like I have alot of catching up to do."

Once the plane landed and I managed to elbow my way to baggage claim, I texted the girls to let them know I was home. The group response was meet us at Lucky's for happy hour. It was around seven o'clock by the time I finally pulled into the parking lot adjacent to Lucky's. I had the taxi take me home first to drop off my bags and got a quick shower before heading out again. The girls were well on their way to intoxication when I arrived.

I was standing at the bar when an arm wrapped itself around my waist and a head landed on my shoulder. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." Kammie said with a sad smile as she stood next to me. "Guys can be such jerks."

Nodding my head, I was grateful for my best friend trying to comfort me even when I was in my nastiest of moods. "I should've known better Kam, but I see it as another lesson learned. Never again Kam, never again."

The look of sadness washed over Kammie as she realized what I was referring to. I wasn't always this jaded woman who had a hard time trusting people. Once upon a time I was in love, with my high school sweetheart. We ended up going to the different colleges.

The long distance relationship worked for the first year or so until he decided he wanted to sample a vast majority of sorority girls from the female student body. I found out what a "ladies" man he truly was when I paid him a surprise visit during spring break. He said he wasn't able to come home that Spring because he was working. I found out "working" to him meant getting drunk and sleeping around. Needless to say that's where my trust in men began to spiral out of control.

Flagging down the bartender, I bought another round of shots and asked that the waitress bring over another set of drinks. If we were going to continue drinking like this, I had better order some food to soak some of it up.

"Oh my..." I rasped while grabbing the sides of my head. "What in the..." I breathed as I rolled over and yanked my pillow over my head. The sunlight streamed in from my floor to ceiling windows as someone yanked open my bamboo blinds.

"C'mon sleepyhead, time to get up." Kam's voice came from somewhere to my left.

"Mmfph." I mumbled. "Just lemme sleep it off."

"It's one thirty in the afternoon Ave. you've already missed an entire day." With those magical words Kam had me ripping the pillow off my face and falling out of bed. I landed on the floor with the comforter twisted around my legs.

Time is money and no money can be made if time is wasted away doing absolutely nothing! "What?! Why didn't anyone wake me for work?"

"Trust me, you were in no condition to be at work today after the night you had." Kam cringed causing me to wonder what type of night I had. She handed me a glass of water and two advils. "I rescheduled all of our meetings to next week. Roxy and Elsie are holding down the fort."

Sitting there thinking, my eyes widened and landed on Kammie. She was leaning against my bed staring down at me with a smile on her face. I let out a groan of disbelief. "Please, please, please tell me I didn't do what I think I did."

Kammie only nodded her head. "Ok, I won't tell you all about how you called Lorenzo and left a five minute voicemail at his place of work, about how much you hate him."

"Un-freaking-believable." I groaned. Thank goodness we weren't going through with the merger, at least I don't have to worry about ever seeing him again. "Why'd you let me do it?"

"You needed to get it off your chest. Don't you feel better?" She shrugged. As a matter of fact I did feel better. "Now get up, we're going out to lunch." Kammie called out over her shoulder as she left my room. I almost dry heaved at the mention of food, but I still managed to get myself up off the floor and into the shower.

It was a week later, when it finally happened. I actually thought I managed to escape probably the most embarrassing moment of my adult life unscathed, boy was I wrong. I was in the middle of a PowerPoint presentation on the new columns we would be adding to our magazine, in the jammed pack conference room of Tres Chic when I had the intense feeling of being watched.

For the most part, I was being watched by the attendees of the meeting, aside from Kam, Roxy, and Elsie who were on their cellphones. Probably sick and tired of seeing this presentation for the umpteenth time. My first mistake was glancing out the glass windows of the conference room into the hallway. Standing there with his arms crossed and a devilish smirk tugging at his lips was Lorenzo. My second mistake was when I nervously stepped to my right and tripped over the projector cord, landing flat on my face and causing the entire room to be enveloped in darkness. Dammit why am I always falling?

I felt someone tugging me up off the floor and then heard Roxy whisper out. "C'mon let's get you out the side door."
We exited through the side door and I came face to face with the one person I thought I'd never have to see again.

"Alright and that about wraps up the presentation." I could hear Elsie say as the conference room door shut behind us, she clapped her hands and flicked on the light. "Any questions you may have, Kammie and I will address."

I'm so thankful for my girls, we can always count on one another during embarrassing situations. Although, I kind of wish one of them could get me out of my current predicament. "Hello, Ava. I believe we need to have a little talk." Lorenzo greeted me as Roxy excused herself mumbling something along the lines of drinking too much coffee and needing the ladies room.
