Dan's POV
I awkwardly fumble the keys around the lock while I balance groceries on my leg. I finally get the door open, and quickly head to the kitchen so I don't drop my bags.
"Phil! I'm home I got some groceries!"
No answer.
"Phil?"
I start looking around, maybe he isn't home yet. I walk into the lounge, and see Phil sitting on the couch. His knees are tucked to his chest, and his eyes are red and puffy like he has been crying.
"Phil? Are you okay?"
I sit next to him, and put my arm on his shoulder. I never have been good at comforting people.
"She broke up with me Dan." Phil cries.
"Oh." Is all I can say. This isn't exactly bad news to me. But... I don't want to be inconsiderate.
"It um, it will be okay." I try to console him. I pull him into a hug, and we sit there for what feels like forever.
"Wanna watch some Buffy?" I say, finally breaking the silence.
He nods, so I get up to put the DVD in. I sit back down, and we both watch.
"I love you Dan. You know that right?"
Wait, what did he say?
"What?"
"I love you, Dan. "
"I uh, I love you too, Phil."
Phil curls up, lays his head on my chest, and continues watching the show. I can't help but just stare at his face. His beautiful eyes, his soft lips-
Dan, stop.
He just broke up with his girlfriend for god sakes.
He is your best friend. Nothing more.
But I wanted him to be more. I wanted him to be so much more.
