Hey everyone! As promised, here is another chapter =) I’m so sorry it’s taken this long to update, but I will get another up in the next few days (or earlier if I’m lucky) Thanks to everyone who has read and commented xo. If anyone has any ideas about what they’d like in this story, feel free to message me =)

Now as always, read and enjoy!

I slept soundly that night. The next morning I was unusually happy and Aiden noticed.

‘So who’s the guy?’ he asked with a knowing look. God he reminded me of our father when he did that.

‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ I reply with a disdainful sniff, and quickly avert my gaze. He was far too perceptive for his own good. As proven when he continued to question me despite my efforts to avoid the topic. In this moment he seemed more like the annoying brother I’d grown up with, rather than the stranger he’d become.

‘You haven’t been this….chirpy…in forever. The last time you were so happy was when you were smitten with that other guy.’ (That other guy had then gone on to cheat and break my heart, but let’s not go there) I glare at him but he only lifts his chin defiantly.

‘There is no guy; do you really think I would have time to see anyone right now? And ‘chirpy’? What does that even mean?’ I ask with raised brows. I can see him considering what I’d said, and couldn’t help the satisfaction and relief which coursed through me as he gave up on the idea. I was about to continue when my phone went off. Who would be calling me now? I started forward but Aiden was sitting right in front of my phone. He snatched it off the table before I could do anything and held it aloft as he quickly got up and ran away from me.

‘Who’s Ben? I knew it! You are seeing someone!’ He cried out triumphantly.

I froze in the process of chasing him around the table. Benedict was calling me? He never calls, only texts. Oh god, is something wrong? Wait….Aiden knows about him now! And…shit. This is not going to end well. He confirmed my fears when he brought the phone to his ear and answered in a suspiciously charming voice.

‘Hello? This is Ellie’s phone.’

Oh god oh god oh god oh god! Someone please put me out of my misery right now. I started silently mouthing off at him and telling him to hand it to me while he stood there smirking. I would kill him later, but right now I needed my phone back. I couldn’t tell what Benedict was saying, but he was probably very confused.

‘She’s busy at the moment, but should be back in a few minutes. I’m her brother Aiden. She hasn’t told you about me? Really? Well she hasn’t told me about you either so I guess we’re even…’ He laughed at something Ben said, before continuing on as if I weren’t standing in front of him with a panicked look on my face. ‘I think you’re right, we should be insulted! Her own brother and boyfriend don’t know about each other…’

No! Oh….fuck! He just called Benedict my boyfriend…..Ben will think I call him my boyfriend! I am going to crawl into bed and never leave. Suddenly I no longer want to steal the phone back. There is no way I want to hear what Ben has to say after Aiden’s comment. I can tell I’ve gone bright red, and my left eye has begun to twitch. Aiden looks ready to burst out laughing at my appearance, but manages to hold himself together. That asshole. He listens to whatever Ben has to say and then looks at me carefully.

‘Oh….sorry, I just assumed you were. No she never said anything she’s just been really secretive lately. Uh huh. Well if you do ever start dating, I have to meet you first and make sure you’re good enough for her. Since our parents are gone it’s my job now.’ He says this confidently, but I can see the sadness and pain in his eyes. He looks away and seems surprised at something Ben says. ‘Our parents and sister died a few months ago…it’s just us now. She’s taking care of me. I thought you would know that?’
