Sang's POV:
Like all good things in life, there comes a time when it must end.
Once the ceremony was over and the Academy's servants escorted Marie-sama and her parents away the boys stood up and started to follow their lords out of the room.
The son, however, stayed behind and came over to me, helping me up from my chair.
"I will show you to your room." He told me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. What did he want?
Deciding that it was as good a time to confront him as any other, thought, I relaxed and said, "Yes sir."
I followed a step behind him as we walked through the maze of hallways, turning around corners and going past doorways, my weird sense of direction creating a mental map of the house in my head so I would never get lost.
For some weird reason he took me to the gardens. The prospect of walking in them both cheering me and making me wary.
"Sir?" I asked him, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Why are we here?"
Once he was satisfied that we were well hidden by the foliage in the place he turned to face me, "I'm pretty sure you know why. Go on. Ask your questions, Sang-chan."
Internally I smiled, he knew me so well. But I kept a stern expression on my face, there was no way I was going to allow him to escape this one unscathed.
"Who exactly are you, Wil-kun?" I asked him.
He gave me an innocent smile, "Well, that's a bit of a long story..."
I narrowed my eyes at him and he gulped, taking a step back and raising his hands in a sign of peace.
"So you better start talking, and fast." I told him seriously.
He smiled, seeming strangely happy.
"I am the Academy's Heir." He told me, sounding far too cheerful.
I almost slapped him then, the anger surging through me nearly uncontrollable.
"You lied to me, to us!" I accused, my voice sounding cold and sharp.
His cheerful act dropped instantly and he looked contrite, lowering his head and looking up at me like a lost puppy.
I had forgiven him in the past when he gave me this look, but this was far too big to just let go.
I put my hands on my hips in a universal sign that all women used to say "I am not taking your shit".
He sighed and straightened, his eyes going hard "I had to, Sang." He told me seriously and I understood what he meant.
He was the heir to a powerful clan and I was the servant of their enemy. He had no choice but to keep his identity a secret from me and Karen-chan when pretending to be his enemy's servant.
I narrowed my eyes for a moment. If there was something I was sure about, it was that Wil's feelings for Karen were genuine and that the other girl truly liked him, too.
"What about Karen-chan?" I asked him, "Does she know?"
Does she know you are an heir, does she knows you are engaged?
I wanted to shout at him, but I knew my throat wouldn't manage it.
He looked sheepish. "She is actually a part of my personal guard."
I was shocked, my two best friends, only friends, were strangers from another clan.
I felt my eyes tear up and looked down to my feet. I knew they couldn't tell me, but their lies still hurt.
"Oh no, don't be like that, sweetie." He says, his voice sounding sad.
"I'm fine." I say, turning my back to him, my heart hardening into a block of ice.
He steps closer to me, putting his arms around my body in a comforting hug "No, you are not." He says quietly.
I let out a sob, unable to control myself. This is Wil, the boy I love as if he were a brother to me.
He hugs me tighter and starts crooning as I turn around in his arms and bawl my eyes out in his kimono, drenching the fabric.
Once my tears dry and I calm down a little I take a step back and look up at him, my eyes feeling irritated and swelled from all the crying.
He gives me a gentle smile, "I know you are feeling confused and betrayed right now, Sang. But please, if there is something you can never doubt it is that I love you."
I know he means as a little sister, and not a lovers kind of love. The thought warms me from inside out, chasing the cold that had started to settle around my heart.
This was Wil, I told myself again. Rich heir or poor driver, he was still my Wil.
I hugged him again, this time trying to convey that I had forgiven him.
He sighed against my head, his body relaxing in apparent relief.
Neither of us saw the shadow watching quietly from the window.
......
Ronald Sorenson's (Sang's father) POV:
"Ooooh, Ronald! Did you see how pretty our dear daughter was today?" Crooned Elise Sorenson to him.
His wife was, as usual, being a pain in the ass.
The woman had no brain in that head of hers and irritated him to no end. The only reason I kept her was because of her use.
Elise knew that Sang, as his older daughter, was the true heir to the Sorenson clan instead of Marie, but that little piece of information was something that the stupid woman thought she could ignore.
Making Sang into a servant had brought her an unholy sort of glee and she enjoyed punishing the younger girl whenever she had an excuse.
I allowed it because it suited my plans.
If Sang was broken and submissive to him she would be the perfect puppet.
I had made sure she was given an education and was prepared to take her place as a mistress of the clan someday, but I had no intention of relinquishing the power of clan leader to anyone.
For that reason alone I kept Elise and her daughter.
Marie was no more than a cover for Sang, keeping my real heir in the safety of the shadows until came the right time to use her.
And use her I would.
