We are driving as fast as we can on the slippery city street. The buildings and lights are flashing by, the only thing staying constant is Wills car. His speed is matching mine and he's watching me.
I laugh, "Watch the road, Loser!" I yell towards him, keeping my eyes on the road.
We cross the quarter mile mark.
Now, the scenery is changing. The skyscrapers are now little town houses, the pavement is grass, there's neighborhoods with fenced in houses that have toys littering the yards.
Sorry parents with sleeping children, I know we're really loud.
Seeing as how there isn't any bends yet, I decide to be a little cocky. I take out my cherry Chapstick and start applying it in my rear view mirror.
"Prepping for my victory kiss, babe?" Will shouts from his car at me.
"In your dreams, loser!" I smirk and blow him another kiss. He catches it again and takes it to his heart.
Now the green grass is turning into sand, we pass the beach entrance and start going up the mountain. This is where it gets tricky.
There's only two lanes, for oncoming and going traffic, so we take both. I'm near the edge while he's on the side with the street poles.
I look out my window and at the ocean beneath me, the only thing separating me from death is a shitty guard rail.
My car slides and I grab the wheel with both hands, I start breathing heavily. I glance to my right and see Will watching me with concern, he shoots me a look that asks if I'm okay and I nod.
A little ways up the road I see the memorial. There's a cross under the street light with about 6 bouquets of flowers. As I pass, I read the cross.
'James-Never Forgotten.'
I spot the purple roses I placed there yesterday, they still looked healthy.
I caught Wills eye again, he had a big smile on his face.
His smile made me feel different.
It made me crinkle my nose, and I felt my toes tingling. They say you feel butterfly's in your stomach when you meet someone like him, but I have a whole damn zoo inside me.
His smile made me smile.
I love the looks he gives me.
