Chapter Four: Awakening

I bolted up not remembering where I was. Some how I was home in my bed not knowing how I got there I went in search of Katie.

"Oh my gosh! Finally you're awake!" She rushes out running towards me the second I open my bedroom door and enveloping me in a hug.

"How did I get home? The last thing I remember is the woods and.. Oh no! What do they all think?" I can't believe I acted so reckless. What would my mate want with me if I had any rumours of impurity.

"Don't worry hun I covered for you. Told them all that you're a nervous reck about leaving our home. Told em you've been having panic attacks and that you probably jus needed some air. I found you and Kyle helped me bring you home without anyone knowing."

I sighed in relief. How could this be happening? I don't even know what is happening. My body is plagued with masked emotions and desires that feel heavenly, but leave me feeling anything but pure.

"I think we should get some rest for tomorrow." She said to me reassuring me with her eyes that everything will be okay.

"No."

"What you changed your mind about going?"

"We need to leave now." I said heading back into my room to do what little packing I had left.

"Why? Are you okay? Lex tell me what's going on!"

"I don't know! That's the problem. I can't stay here and risk being kicked out of the pack for something I don't understand." I couldn't help but think what my mate would think of me if I was a rouge. The thought of him rejecting me would be too much to handle.

"Okay we'll go"

*15 min later*

"We should head west." Katie said smiling. I know what she was thinking: the ocean. We must be more practical though. We were about ten minutes outside of town and I pulled over. "What are you doing?" She inquired confused.

"Shhh I need to think. Connect with my wolf and let her guide us." I closed my eyes and let everything go. My wolf and I are deeply connected, you see some may describe having a wolf like a double consciousness which you can communicate with, but for those of purity it's more than that. Our wolves our not half of us in this lifetime but they cross through time and are passed to us throughout our lifetimes. Us wolves firmly believe in reincarnation and its what enables us to be wise beyond our years.

Our wolves don't speak until we meet our mates. Once we hear our mates our wolf spirit emulates the voice of our beloved whispering us guidance in times of need and giving us a mind link that through practice can actually be used to communicate through. The ability to mind link is not something all wolves have. Common wolves believe it to be merely mythical. Much of our true power as wolves has been lost throughout the years. Our pack knows more than any and few elders in other packs know near as much as cubs in our pack.

Much like Viking culture we have many myths and legends. We know little about their origins or validity but our faith in fate helps us to embrace the meaning in all of our teachings. I remember when I was little I was told the legend of a pure blood prince that after not finding or sensing his mate when he came of age vowed to spend a hundred years paying homage to the fates in hopes they'd grant him a mate to cherish and live out his immortal life protecting.

In school we are taught far more than humans. I graduated with honours in every subject my expertise being in the mythical world of the pure bloods that lived long ago.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by a noise.

"What was that?" Katie asked. I could feel her fear building.

"I'm not sure" I instinctively locked the doors. In a flash we were surrounded my figures. Forming a perfect row on the opposite side of the road they stood completely still. I had this strong urge to get out of the car. The more I thought about it I knew I had to be true to my instincts. Opening the door I got out Katie not hesitating to follow me, she must of felt it too. Looking around I saw a figure approaching. Strangely I couldn't bring myself to be afraid, I knew they wouldn't harm me.

"Your grace." He said bowing as all the what I can't help but assume are some sort of soldiers. Their clothing looks like some sort of military with combat boots and a medallion hanging on their chest above their heart. It seemed familiar, like I've seen it before. It's a crest, a very very ancient crest. Wait, could it be? The crest of the pure bloods.

"Who are you?" I asked. The pure bloods our extinct, or at least that's what our elders say. They claim to be the purest; their considered to be at the top of the werewolf hierarchy.

"I am Thane, son of Ander Validor the mighty conqueror." He announced pride emanating from his very being. I recognize both those names. Wait, Validor, the captain of the pure blood army that sacrifice himself in the battle of Elm to save the king. He earned his bloodline much honour. I instinctively bowed my head respectfully. Looking at Katie to communicate to her that she should do the same.

"It's an honour, but what may I ask is your business here?"

"I have been entrusted in a royal quest. My prince and loyal friend has beseeched me to scour far and near in search of the fates greatest gift to him, his mate." He paused looking torn. "I've been searching for a year to no avail, I fear I may fail. I'd rather end my immortality than return in disgrace to my lord Xavier."

When that heavenly name slipped for my lips I felt my knees tremble an a strange warm sensation begin in my head.
