"So," he said, the word hanging in the air between them, as he desperately searched for something to say. Something, anything, that was better than so. The challenge shouldn't have been as hard as it were. He could feel an uneasy feeling seetling in his chest, that he couldn't quite seem to shake off. He knew it was the awkwardness he was breathing in, but he couldn't seem to break the ice no matter how much he tried.
"So," she answered, her diamond blue eyes fixed at the pavement below, as she stood in front of him. Her jet black hair was loose from the pigtails, doing it's best to cover her face, but yet it didn't hide the fact that she was nervously biting her lip, and neither the fact that her shoulders was stiff and her face full of fright. For what reason he couldn't understand.
"So," he repeated dumbly, trying to break the awkward silence that was stretching between them. His absolutely intelligent comment, only seemed to raise the tension between them.
But then...
A slight curve of her lips, as a low snicker escaped her lips. The tension disappear, both from the air and from their bodies, as they seminolus took a breath of relief and let their shoulders fall. "Both we-" she quickly cut herself off, correcting her mistake"I mean, we both have such a big bluryvoca."
He smiled slightly of her mixing up the word. She was always like this, her mouth desperately trying to keep up with her fleeting mind. Always either faltering or speaking too fast at the cost of her try. "You mean vocabulary, right?"
She nodded gratefully, a bit awkwardness still in her posture and embarrassment in the color of her cheeks. "Yeah. That."
He smiled, trying to hide his disappointment in the fact that they once again were back at the monosyllables. It was constantly like this with Marinette, he finally seemed to have reached through with her, but as soon as their hands touched she went back in her shell. Leaving Adrien to try again, in the fragile hope that someday he would come through. That someday, he wouldn't have to try anymore. "So," he started, too late realizing that Marinette's words had become too true. He really didn't had a big vocabulary, at least not when her blazing blue eyes sucked all the words out of him, "eh, why are you late for school?" He scratched his neck nervously, as he noticed that she was staring at him in shock. Had he said something wrong?
"School!" she screeched, startling him slightly, "We need to get to class! Adrien, quick!" Her before stiff body was suddenly brimming with energy, as she nervously tripped on the place. Adrien blinked, as his brain tried to comprehend the shift of mode and the reason for it. Then with a jolt he realized why he was standing here in the first place. He was late for school. No wonder Marinette had looked so shocked by what he had said, how could they both had forgotten about school? Had he really been that lost in Marinette and awkward silence that he could have forgotten about this? And how could it be that Marinette seemed to suck all reasonable thoughts out of him? He had even forgotten until now about the recent akuma-attack.
"Are you coming or what?" she shouted, having already moved to the top of the stairs. She was looking down at him, seeming slightly panicked.
He nodded, still a bit dazed, "Coming right up."
Then suddenly her mood shifted, and her pink lips pulled up in a smirk. Her eyes glinted mischievously as she said, "Let's see who reach the classroom first." And then she ran, leaving Adrien left in shock and wonder.
Then suddenly, as she left his sight, he woke to life again. "Hey!" he shouted, as he ran after her. "That's totally not fair."
