Chapter Two: Apprentice!

     "All cats old enough to swim, gather under the High Root to hear my words!" Owlfeather leaped onto a tall jagged root, looking down at her clan-mates. Flutterkit bounded towards Owlfeather, excited while Amberkit sashayed after her, gracefully and delicately. "I say these words before Starclan, that I Owfeather, of Riverclan, call upon these two kits. I ask my warrior ancestors to look down on these two kits. Flutterkit and Amberkit has both reached the age of six moons." Flutterkit's eyes sparked in surprise, smiling from cheek to cheek. Amberkit was less enthusiastic, and simply rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah. Hurry up, get on with it!" Owlfeather frowned at Amberkit. "Then from this day forward, until they earn their warrior names, you will be known as Flutterpaw, I will be mentoring her, and Amberpaw will be mentored by Rapidriver." Owlfeather dipped her head, and touched noses to Flutterpaw as Rapidriver touched his nose to Amberpaw's, who shrank back in disgust, then bounded to her mother. "What?!" A shriek sounded from the clearing. "Flutterpaw's mentor is the deputy?! You are way better than her! You should get her as your mentor! And instead you get some stupid Rapidriver?!" Meadowlark's whiskers twitched furiously. Rapidriver, who was nearby, flicked his tail, annoyed. "I'm not the stupid one." He growled, and stalked away, padding to Amberpaw. "Want to go train?" Amberpaw frowned. "I might as well, since this place is boring and I have nothing to do!" Owlfeather dashed up to Rapidriver and Amberpaw, with Flutterpaw at her side. "Can we join you?" Rapidriver smiled, nodding. "Sure! We were going to work on swimming." Flutterpaw's eyes lit up when she heard the word swimming. "Let's go already! I want to rub it in Flutterpaw's face that I'm way better than her at it!" Amberpaw pouted, strutting to the river. "Alright alright." Rapidriver sighed, bolting after her. "C'mon! It's your time to shine!" Owlfeather winked at Flutterpaw, smiling. Flutterpaw nodded, bounding after Amberpaw. I'll show her!
