"I declare a race!" Amberpaw puffed out her chest. "A race...?" Flutterpaw echoed. "Yes! First, we will swim through all the rivers in Riverclan, then run through the moor in Windclan! After, we will climb up a bunch of trees in Thunderclan, in Shadowclan, we hike through the swamp. In Skyclan, we will trek through the cold snow, but don't worry. The Tribe of Flowing...Lava will warm you up." Amberpaw's eyes twinkled, smirking. Flutterpaw tried to process every word into her head. "Swimming, running, climbing, hiking, trekking, lava...?" Flutterpaw echoed. Owlfeather stood by her side. "But that means crossing into other clan's territories. Won't they be suspicious?" Rapidriver nodded, agreeing. "I don't think the other leaders will be happy to find Riverclan on their territory." "They don't tell me what to do!" Amberpaw rolled her eyes. "Hey guys!" A new voice entered the conversation. A beautiful silver she-cat padded into view, smiling brightly. "Hi Silverdream!" Flutterpaw greeted, smiling in return. "How have you been doing?" She questioned the cats. "Well...Amberpaw just declared a little competition against Flutterpaw." Owlfeather explained, hesitating. "Won't the clan leaders be mad?" She blinked. "That's what I said." Rapidriver sighed, then turned to Amberpaw. "Well, if you are going to do the race, what if you don't come back?" "Ugh! I will come back! I will make sure Flutterpaw will be the one to die, not me!" The she-cat tossed a strand of fur dramatically. Flutterpaw flattened her ears, staring at Amberpaw in disbelief. "Now listen here, little cat." Silverdream stepped up, narrowing her eyes at Amberpaw. "No cat will die. You make sure of that." Owlfeather turned to Silverdream, giving her a polite nod. "Let's go back to camp. You know, you're assessment is tomorrow, you better be full and well-rested." Rapidriver reminded the two cats. "Yes!" Flutterpaw's eyes sparkled with happiness. "I can't wait." Amberpaw frowned, less enthusiastic. The five quickly padded back to camp, all equally exhausted and hungry. What if I don't win the race? What if I loose? My mother would hate me so much more... Flutterpaw thought as she bit into a juicy salmon. Even though it was sweet and chewy, it tasted dry like ashes in Flutterpaw's mouth. "One question...what would happen to the loser?" She swallowed and looked at Amberpaw. "They leave Riverclan. Forever." Amberpaw gave her a menacing smirk as Flutterpaw's heart skipped a beat. Forever...
