*Y/n pov*
Joe moved out of the way of the door and I craned my neck to see who the stranger he'd been talking to for the past few minutes was.
The guy walked in. "Y/n." He said quietly.
I shot an accusing glance at Joe who just looked away. "Jack, why are you he-... I began, trying to not let any emotion seep into my voice.
"No."
I lifted my head up at looked at Jack, confused.
"No, y/n, please don't start. I just want you to tell me what I did... And then, if you really want, I'll leave..."
"Why don't you ask that girl you had such a great time with last night," I spat out.
Jack stared at me blankly for a minute and then his face slowly turned red.
"Oh shit." He muttered.
"Oh shit? That's all you've got to say?" I tried to keep the tears in. "Just get out Jack."
Seeing he wasn't moving, I stood up and began walking towards the door. If he wouldn't leave then I would. I barged past him as he shouted, "y/n wait!"
I ignored him and reached the door. Suddenly I felt a hand grab my arm and I span around to see Jack looking down at me with pleading eyes.
"Y/n just listen to me..."
I took a deep breath.
"No Jack, you listen to me, okay? My heart is like a building and it's pretty near collapsing. People come and go and when they leave they take bricks and bit by bit I get weaker. The last guy I dated left me a mess. He ruined me..." My voice was high and I could feel the tears starting to roll down my face. "This past year I've been trying to fix it, rebuild it, and I was actually getting somewhere Jack. I was actually beginning to feel like I wasn't missing pieces of myself. It was great." I looked straight into his sad eyes. "And then you came along... Other people warned me, and I knew myself that you were trouble. But I let you in anyway. Why? Because I loved you Jack. I truly loved you... but like everything else, all good thing must come to an end."
I span around and walked to the door but then paused and looked at him once more.
"And I guess it's a good thing... because I've come to realise, that you, Jack Maynard, are a wrecking ball."
*Jack's pov*
Y/n's words were like knives. (and often leave scars lmao I'm trash soz - orla.) She walked out the door, slamming it shut after, leaving me standing there, red-faced and alone. I took a step towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Joe asked suddenly.
"I need to go after her." I stated.
He pulled me back; "No Jack, y/n's right. It'd probably be a lot better if you'd just go home. I'll find her."
"Joe..."
"Just stay away from her, okay?"
I nodded, biting my lip. Joe ran out the door after y/n and I slumped on the sofa.
After a while Josh stood up and walked straight out the door and Oli followed him, not even bothering to say goodbye.
"You should probably be getting home." Caspar said suddenly.
I mumbled a yes and stood up. I started walking towards the door and Conor came after me; he would most likely be giving me a lift back. I stepped out into the hall. Conor pushed past me and began down the stairs. I was about to follow when I heard Caspar's voice.
"Oh... and Jack?"
I turned around.
"Don't come back."
*Joe's pov*
I ran out the door of my apartment and charged down the stairs. My mind was racing but right now I needed to concentrate on finding y/n.
I'd known her for 3 years and I'd learnt from experience that when she was upset or heartbroken she couldn't think straight. She could be boarding a plane to Mexico right now for all I know. (Idek)
The sky was a miserable grey colour and I began to feel drops of water landing on my head. This soon turned into a full on storm and I was soaked through but I kept running.
Where could she be? Where would she go in times lik-...
Wait.
I started running and soon became oblivious to the water sloshing around in my shoes and the constant hammering of raindrops on my head. I knew exactly where she was and that kept me going. I pushed past the huddles of cold people that littered the street and eventually found myself standing in front of a tall locked gate. I climbed over the gate in a few minutes and landed on familiar turf. I looked around the deserted park I was standing in. She'd be here all right.
I ran for a good 10 minutes down a gravel path where I finally reached my destination. I stared at the huge tree in front of me. Taking a deep breath I began climbing up until I reached about halfway. I lifted myself up onto the thickest branch of the tree which was sheltered by a homemade roof and smiled at the figure beside me.
"Y/n...!"
"Joe what are you doing here."
"Just making sure you don't do anything stupid"
"And when have I ever done anything like that?" She said, laughing slightly through her tears.
I noticed her shivering... well more shaking as she was wearing shorts, so I took of my jacket and wrapped it around her. I put my arms on her shoulders and tried to warm her up. We sat together in silence, listening to the pitter patter of raindrops on the roof above us.
"How did you know I'd come here?" She said suddenly.
"Lucky guess."
When y/n was a child she used to run away a lot. When things happened at home, whether it be family problems or whatever, she'd get sent to her uncles' in London and then she'd come here.
In time she had built a roof over the branch, out of wood planks she'd stolen from her uncle's workshop.
When we did finally meet, we instantly became friends. And one year later she showed me the place she had never shown anyone else.
Her little secret. Her refuge.
I looked at y/n. She was staring at me with sad eyes but she had a small smile on her face. Neither of us looked away and she began moving towards me.
This couldn't be happening.
Before I could stop myself, or think, or do anything that made sense at all, I leant in too.
We both inhaled a deep breath the second our lips met. I could feel a wave of euphoria wash over me. Fireworks were going off in my throat and there was a whirlwind of butterflies in my stomach. I had waited for this moment for 3 years and now it had finally come.
And it was perfect, oh believe me it was. But it wasn't right.
She was heartbroken and sad and she had no sense of judgment. This was taking advantage of how upset and vulnerable she was.
So I did the hardest thing I had ever done. I pulled away.
"Y/n... I can't do this, you're not thinking straight." I said.
She looked at me, biting her lip.
She then whispered okay, so quietly I could barely hear her.
That one kiss, that I had been waiting for for 3 years, that had meant so much to me, that had set my heart on fire, was nothing to her.
And that broke me.
