chapter 4 Attack!

Paul's Pov

All these infected had came against Derek, Miles and I. So we fought against tons of them, punch by punch. A infected had grabbed Miles and he had gotten it off of him. Then smashed it's head into the ground by stomping on it. Then Derek had used hisnbat and smacked a infected head off. It went clear out if the window. Miles grabbed a infected and stabbed it's neck. He did a few more the same way but in a cooler more badass way. Then the last infected charged at me and I just kicked it's head and stabbed it on a sharp point of a artifact.

"Holy shit...... That was close....." said Miles.

"Too damn close." I said replying to him. Then we went out of this window that lead to these metal stairs on the side of the building. We had gotten on top of the building and we had a clear sight of the capital building. "There it is. In front of the beautiful sunrise."

"Yeah, won't be long now huh?" said Derek. "We need to get across." we looked around and he saw a plank and sat it across the buildings fit a walk way. I walked in front of the kid but then I decided to let him go infront of me.

"Go ahe-"

"Peshh." he said then walked on the plank. I looked at him and then at Derek. This little kid is a Bitch! We all walked over to the other side and as we were watching the sunset rise view.

"Well is that everything you hoped for?" I asked the kid.

"Jury's still out. But man, you can't deny that view." said Miles. This kid hasn't seen the best in the world. Well what's left of it.

"Come on this way." said Derek. He lead us to this latter getting us to the ground. I touch my watch and look down at it. The thought of my daughter slipped into my thoughts. One of my precious things I've owned, was lost. "Hey, stay focused." he said. Then climbed down the latter, and we made it to these flight of stairs. Then we saw this pool of water that was in the middle of our pathway to the building. I see all these cars and yet none of them work. We get into the water then Miles began to speak.

"ummm, Just so it's out there, I can't swim."

"It's not that deep we can just walk in it." said Derek.

"I know you guys are getting paid for this..... I'm trying to say thanks." explained Miles.

"Yeah sure thing kid." I replied. Well made it up the rotten stairs and opened the double doors into the capital building.

"No! .....no, no, no, no, no...." Derek runs to a guy on the ground that was dead.

"What happens now?" asked Miles.

"What are you doing Derek?" I asked him.

"We need a map, or something to tell us where they were going." said Derek.

"How far are we gonna take this?"

"AS FAR AS IT NEEDS TO GO!" yelled Derek. "Where was this lab told theirs?"

"She never said. She only mentioned that is was someplace out east." said Miles. Derek frantically continues looking through the dead body for any clues.

"Listen this is not us."what do you know about us..... about me?"

"I know that you are smarter than this." I said

"Guess what we are shitty people that's how it's been the whole time." Derek said.

"We are survivors."

"This is our chance!"

"IT IS OVER DEREK!" Let's go home!" I said

"I'm not going anywhere, this is my last stop." He said."My luck had to run out sooner or later.

"what?" I reach out to him and he pushes my hand away.

"DONT..... touch me!" he yelled.

"Holy shit! He's infected." said Miles.

I started to back up from him. "Paul."

"Let me see." I said.

"I didn't mean-"

"Show it to me!" I demanded. He pulled down his collar and the bite was in red flesh, getting even worse and bloodier. "Oh Christ."

"Oops, Right." he looks over at Miles. "Give me your arm." he pulled up Miles sleeve and showed the bite. "This was three weeks, I was bitten a hour ago and it's already worse. THIS IS FUCKING REAL PAUL! You've got to get this guy to Terrell's."

"No that's your party, I'm not do-"

"Yes you are! Come on, please do me a life time solid and get this boy to Terrell's." said Derek. I look at him and a tear starts to role down my face. He wipes it off and stares into my eyes. "Please." then we heard a truck pull up sounded like the military. "Oh shit. Their here. I can buy you some time."

"You expect us to leave you here?" Asked Miles.

"Yes, you need to go now!" he comes to me and grabbed me by my collar. "Go!"

"There is no wa-"

"I will not turn into one of those things. Make this easier for me......

"Miles, get a move on. Make it fu-"

"JUST FUCKING GO! Just go! Said Derek.

"I didn't mean for this!" said Miles.

"Go! I.... I'll see you later......" I said to him. Then we made a run for it. Me and Miles had gotten through these double doors.

"What the fuck! I can't believe we did that!" said Miles.

"Stop......"

"We just left her to die."

"STOP," I shouted. "We keep moving, stay close to me." we moved closer to the way we came in and I hear gunshots. My heart starts to ache as I hear the screams of my life time friend dying..... I can't do this anymore. We made it to this balcony where I see two men and then..... Derek dead on the floor.

"He took out some of my men, okay.. you over there, and you with me." said a soldier. We went by and seen two soldiers coming out way. We hid by these stacked up boxes and decided to take them out. So the two men had came and then I grabbed one and smashed hisbgear against the wall. Miles had flipped over the man and then broke his neck.

"Nice kid, let's keep moving." I said. We moved closer to the door. WHICH WAS A FUCKING MISTAKE! There were even more soldiers. I got my gun out and shot a guy in the head. Before anyone else could react, I took another shot to another guys head. A soldier had came towards me and then grabbed a hold of Miles. Miles steeped on the guys foot and that was my opening. I clenched my fists and landed a punch to his helmet knocking him out.

I shot more men and then we make a run for it. There is a hidden stair case that lead into a tunnel. As me and Miles gotten through to the tunnel, a truck had came and started shooting at us.

We ran away even more and there were two soldiers searching in the area. I quickly noticed that the infected gas was in the room, so I had grabbed my face mask out if my bag and out it on. I looked over to Miles and he was breathing just fine in the air. "How are you able to breath in this?"

"I wasn't lying to you." said Miles.

I grabbed the man and knifed him in his neck, letting his blood spill to the floor. The other guy wasn't aware until he heard a thud on the ground.

"Hello?" I grabbed him and then cracked his neck. We made our way to this open door that lead to the outside. Once we got out of the tunnel, we took a break and sat down on the outside.

"Hey look ummm.... About Derek.... I-"

"You dint bring up Derek, ever! Let's just keep our history to ourselves?" I said to him. I was upset. I lost my best friend and the last thing I needed was a kid on my back. "Seriously, don't tell anyone about your.... Condition.... And lastly you somewhat I say when I say it! Do I make myself clear?" I asked.

"Yes." said Miles.

"Good, now there is a town, where a guy that owes me a couple favors. Come on...." I said getting up.
