Her eyes shoot open and move towards the alarm clock.
3:04.
She rolls over and stares at the ceiling, half wishing it was the stars instead. Suddenly a thought runs wild through her mind. Something...someone...
No name, no face...
Her heart, longing for a stranger. and
Her soul, longing for a ghost.
Her ghost.
Her heart warms up, a smile spreads across her face. Somewhere in between her eyes well up with tears...warmth and sadness washing over her like nothing on this earth.
She closes her eyes, opens her mind, painting the picture of this mysterious figure. Giving her ghost a piece of her...
A blanket of warmth surrounds her and her eyes flutter to a close. A gentle voice whispers goodnight, leaving a smile to linger on her face.
----
"Good morning, Elsa."
"Morning mom." I smile as I walk into the kitchen.
I prepare breakfast at a snail's pace, thinking about last night.
"Are you okay?"
I freeze, my thoughts scattered all over the place. Think, Elsa...
"Els, say something?"
Suddenly that same feeling of warmth crashes over me like a wave.
"I miss someone."
"Who?"
I turn to her and look her in the eyes.
"My ghost.."
She nods.
"Why are you calling it a ghost?"
I take a minute to make sense of it, run last night's events through my head.
"I...I'm not afraid of it. if anything, I feel close to it. I don't know them, let alone if they exist. no name, no face, just their spirit, I guess."
"Oh....honey..."
She gives me a tight hug and I return the favour, closing my eyes, soaking in the love.
"I hope you find them, love." she says.
"I hope they find you.."
The rest of the day, the ghost makes itself at home in my mind.
And at night it lays to rest in my heart. I find myself dreaming of finding them, dreaming of hugging them, spending a day with them.
waking up I miss them more than before.
Still no name, still no face, still no idea if they even exist.
Forever a stranger...
Forever my ghost....
