Prologue: A Man Named Bill
Dipper Pines, a 15 year old brunette, swung the door open hastily. He grinned brightly, as he saw the vast forest once again. Every year he came back to the shack, he would be told many times to stay clear from the obviously dangerous place. Dipper had listened every single time, but today would be different. He checked his worn out backpack, making sure he had his trusty journal and pen, pocket knife, water bottle, flashlight, sweater, and keys.
He nodded his head affirmatively, and began his life changing journey. His heart was racing, head was pounding, and his nails were digging into his sweaty palms. He didn't like going out behind Stan or Mabel's back, but he was itching for some sort of adventure.
When he glanced into the pitch black darkness of the woods shivers went down his spine. He shook them off and took one step.
And another one.
Now he was surrounded by the soul eating darkness that was the trees looming over him, covering the sun. For the last time, he felt a sense of doubt. He ignored the burning sensation, and continued on, hesitantly, and warily. He was quite aware of how perilous and treacherous the forest was, but also knew of the wonders, and creatures of the night. Fueled by that very thought, he quickened his pace, noticing that the Mystery Shack no longer visible to naked eye.
He took his journal and pen out, turned to a new page, and titled it, THE FORESTS OF GRAVITY FALLS. Jotting quick, messy notes down, he skimmed the forest in front of him. The trees had some kind of swirly pattern, and the air felt misty in some shady way.
He saw a few bugs, rabbits, and deer in the distance, but didn't see anything too dangerous.
That is, until he saw a shadowy figure maybe twenty yards away. Without thinking, Dipper let his instincts take control. He sprinted over to the being, not caring much about the small cuts and bruises he received from the stray branches, roots, and plants.
He approached the figure cautiously, making sure he was human. Dipper believed he was, and shook his shoulder.
He felt the being jerk away from Dipper instantly, and a hiss could be heard. Dipper decided maybe he was wrong, and was about to die. Until he heard a dry laugh that was of a human.
"Heya, Pine Tree. Finally decide to come into these woods, hm?" The man smirked, bringing his face close to Dippers.
Dipper tried to pull back, but the man grabbed his arm. "W-what do you mean? Who are you? Are you human?" Dipper saw blood caked cuts and fresh bruises on his face.
This made Bill laugh hard. "Ah thats funny, Pine Tree! One question at a time! Don't overwhelm me or yourself." Bill stood up, dusting his long black pants, "Names Bill. How do you do?" He stuck his hand out for Dipper to shake.
Carefully, Dipper took Bill's hand in his. "Oh, my name isn't Pine Tree! It's Dipper Pines... Just so you know." Dipper stated, a light pink dusting his usually pale cheeks.
"Oh how cute you are, Pine Tree." Bill teased, getting the one reaction he wanted from Dipper.
"I am not cute! Ah- and it's not Pine Tree! I'm Dipper!"
"Sure, kid. Anyways, every year I see you staring deep into the forest, wanting to come in. Of course I'd welcome you in, but eh, I thought why not see how long it would take-" He paused and pointed at Dippers hat, "Pine Tree to come inside. Just three years, and here you are, flesh and bones."
Dipper glared at Bill suspiciously. "So- you stalked me?" He asked.
"Pine Tree, don't flatter yourself. I'd only see you when you neared the forest. Like I'd actually watch you any other time. Unlikely no matter how you look at it."
