Chapter 2: Making it Up to Him
"Bill, were you born in Gravity Falls?" Dipper asked the tall man by his side.
The blond haired man smiled at the brunette. Somehow Dipper ran into him again, and wanted to thank him for waking him up, and be done with it. Bill insisted that if Dipper accompanied him to the library, he'd forgive Dipper for taking time out of his day.
"I suppose." Bill answered bluntly.
"You suppose? What's that supposed to mean? Do you just, like, not know?" Dipper questioned incredulously.
The mans's mocking smirk burned deep into his brain like the hot iron scorching his pale skin.
"P-please stop, S-s..." The small boy panted, blond strands of hair framing his sweaty, bruised face.
Despite the boy's pleads, the man only smiled wider. "Now, be a good boy and be quiet." The iron pressed deeper into his skin.
Screams echoed throughout the room. Tear stains etched onto the boy's cheeks. Doe like eyes welled with tears, mixing with the crimson blood on his cheek.
The screams eventually died down to nothing but a muffled whimper. The iron was removed, and a kiss was placed upon the blonde's forehead.
"Yes... I am not sure." Bill forced a small smile.
"Oh."
They walked down the street, passing people scurrying to reach their desired place. Dipper adjusted his hat, and beamed. "There we go."
Bill looked at him. "Where were you born, Pine Tree?"
"Ah, I was wondering when you'd ask. Mabel and I were born in Piedmont, California." Bill nodded his head at Dipper's reply.
"So you come every summer? Is it for camp or something?"
"Oh, no. I stay with my grunkle... Great uncle."
Bill laughed at Dipper's clarification and flushed cheeks. "That's nice. I don't really have anyone I can say is particularly close to me."
"Bill..."
"Ah-! We're here."
Ignoring Dipper's stare, he enthusiastically pushed the door open. "Well what are you waiting for, Pine Tree? Lets go."
Dipper frowned, but followed him in rather reluctantly.
"What are you looking for?" Dipper questioned, peering at Bill's shadowed face.
"A job."
"The Hebrew Bible..?"
Bill laughed. "No. Not even close. I want to get a job."
"A job? In the library?" Dipper tilted his head.
"No, Dipper. I want a job at the... Mystery Shack." Bill sarcastically teased.
"You just called me Dipper!" He smiled, ignoring Bill's comment about the shack.
"Yeah, I guess." Bill shrugged.
"Ha, I am not Pine Tree after all." Dipper smirked, crossing his arms defiantly.
"Don't let it get to you too much, Pine Tree."
The brunette rolled his eyes and punched Bill in the shoulder lightly. The two walked up to the front desk where Wendy was reading a magazine.
"Wendy?" Dipper asked.
She slammed her magazine down hastily. After seeing Dipper's familiar face, she let out a breath of fresh air. "Thank god. Hey, how are you?" Her eyes slowly drifted to Bill's jet black ones. Her stare hardened for a second. "And you are..?"
"Free." Bill winked flirtatiously.
Dipper rolled his eyes at the lame, yet smooth response, and Wendy's flaming red cheeks.
"He want's a job here."
"Oh. Well... We have a job available. You'd have to read to younger children from an orphanage." Wendy said, pulling a flyer out of the desk drawer next to her.
"I see." Bill's eyes visibly warmed.
"If you don't like that job we-" He cut Wendy off with a smile."It's perfect, thank you."
"It's paid volunteer work I guess, so we just need a small interview with you, and you have the job. We usually start with one time jobs to newcomers before giving them a full time position."
Bill nodded his head.
"It probably pays like... Twenty dollars for those two hours. It's this Wednesday." Wendy said pointing at the flyer.
"I see. That's perfect. When should I come in for the interview?" Bill asked.
"Uh- let me ask."
Bill nodded his head.
In minutes she came back, and handed him a paper.
"Tomorrow at two PM. Bring your résumé and stuff like that." Wendy briefly went over.
Dipper watched the two converse professionally eyes wide with something that could be identified as shock. Had Bill ever been anything but playful? Dipper shook his head. He didn't care.
He didn't.
"Alrighty, Pine Tree. Ready to go? If you want, we can go get something to eat." The blond smiled.
"Ah- that would be great, Bill. If you don't mind, I'd love to go." Dipper sent an equally as enthusiastic smile back.
"Great! There is an amazing café nearby, and you would just adore their cakes!" Bill grabbed Dipper's hand, and pulled them out of the library.
Before exiting however, Dipper couldn't help but notice Wendy's reprimanding and worried stare.
