I'm really having a hard time with Troy's character considering from the beginning that I'm really terrible with characters (be it creating them in fiction or appraising them in real life).
Shruti Chandra Gupta, an Indian Fiction Writer said, "Characters are the single most important aspect of fiction writing. Characters make a story what people make the world. That is, they breathe life into an otherwise insipid environment." of course without the character there's no story (common sense naman eh ) so a strong and convincing character is the lifeblood of the story be it the protagonist (the bida) or the antagonist (kontra bida) which is probably why I'm having a hard time building up Troy's character further because he's caught in the middle he's not the bida but he's not also the kontrabida (at least I'm trying not to make him a kontrabida despite his maangas na personality and his so detestable two-timing and lies) and I couldn't find the foundation to build such character upon, I know I can try to be creative and invent the character if I have to but it's just difficult... and takes a lot of time and imagination and I'm temporarily drained at the moment trying to mesh fiction and real life.
Going back to Troy, maybe I should just write him off as a total complete jerk and get rid of him? and just allow Yen to find true love with Pons or Someone else but definitely NEVER with Troy? maybe not while she's in High School, but years later she will surely find her happily ever after, the issue? Yen will have to choose good over bad, character versus looks and fame... be it in fiction or in real life, a GOOD character is always a better choice and Troy's character is flawed from the very beginning even if I try to make it seem cool, his attitude and his decisions? it could never be cool in real life, even if I try to make excuses for his "angas" it's his choices (betrayal and lies) that defines his true character and although he might learn and change from his evil ways later it will be too late because Yen has already moved on? still thinking and you better keep reading to find out what will happen though :)
You see, If there's one thing I learned from Troy's character? it's this, there's no such thing as middleground when it comes to character... it's either strong or weak, good or bad, and no amount of editing and rewriting could make someone like Troy a nice guy or a hero, he might change someday (at least maybe I could write it so that he'll find redemption later) but not while the story is unfolding and that still makes him a kontrabida and I guess I'm ok with that already and hopefully later... much much later I might be able to upload chapter six and move on with the story.
