Chapter Three

"What do you want Nū'?" I asked when we walked in,

"what did you think of Birch?" she asked,

"he's just another person" I said,

"she's going to dinner with him and his friends!" Maple said excitedly,

I rolled my eyes

"what was I supposed to say?" I asked -I mean seriously-

"that's great!" Nū' said "you guys will have a blast! now go on you know the way I need to talk to Maple" she said,

"ok" I said walking out the door hands in my pockets, I walked to the only good restaurant in the Fountain Square, I looked around and saw Birch waving, I walked over and saw four other kids two boys and two girls.

"finally another girl" one girl said she had hair that was cherry blossom pink and a petal skirt the other girl smiled, she had apple red hair with streaks of apple green and apple yellow her dress matched her hair with it's red yellow and green stripes.

"hey Anonymous" Birch said,

"hey" I said quietly,

"this is Cherry Apple Sycamore and Spruce" Birch said pointing to the four kids in turn "guys this is Anonymous"

"is your name really Anonymous?" Sycamore asked,

"nope" I said

"what is it?" he asked

"not telling" I said

"please?" Apple asked

"fine but if you ever call me it I will call you horrible nicknames for the rest of your life" I said smiling,

"what are the nicknames?" Cherry asked

"well since you asked yours is Crumbs, and Apple yours is Ape, and Sycamore you are..."

"i have a nickname already I'm A-More" Sycamore said "well I'll give you another nickname A-Less, and Spruce your Bruce, and Birch your Cha-Cha." I said smiling

"Cha-Cha! What!" he asked I laughed,

"any way my name is Stacey" I said

"all this and your name is Stacey?!" A-More exclaimed "yup now no more questions about my name," I said sitting down across from Birch,

"so since the name Anonymous is kind of long can we call you Ann?" Birch asked

"um ok" I said. just then our waiter came

"what can I get you all?" he asked,

"i'll have a piece of human pizza and a sunshine juice" I said the others ordered then Cherry turned to me

"how do you know about sunshine juice?" she asked

"do you actually think this is my first time in the Canopy?! I mean really I've been to the Roots to and obviously I've been to the Surface thats where I used to live," I said "you used to live on the Surface!?" A-More asked,

"yeah and she has a crown to" Birch said

"you. Have. A. Crown!!!" Apple cried

"um yeah, no big deal" I said

"no big deal!" Spruce cried they all were wide eyed,

"how about after we eat I'll bring you to meet Nū' Huàng Cây" I said

"ok!" they all said.

so after we ate I led them to the doors

"no visitors." Red said

"guys it's me" I said pulling out my crown "they're my guests" I said pointing at the others

"in you go" Wood said I walked through the doors the others followed

"hey Nū' I brought guests" I said

"who are they?" Nū' asked

"Birch, Cherry, Sycamore, Apple, and Spruce, they wanted to meet you" the five waved

"hey there!" Nū' said "I see you have made friends with Annie"

I spun around to face Nū' the five took a step back

"i have told you a million times not to call me Annie!" I said "sorry it's what best friends do" Nū' said

"no it's what you do" I said

"wait you two are best friends?" A-More asked

"yeah I've known Anonymous since she was seven" Nū' said shrugging "that's what four years?" she said

"yup Nū' has helped me with so much" I said it was the truth

"well it's late and Anonymous is starting school tomorrow so she should get some rest see you all later!" Nū' said

"oh by the way you can call Anonymous Ann now she said so herself" Birch said Nū' jumped out of her Thrown chair and did a little dance then she hugged the girls then the boys and she called a servant to bring cake the five kids looked utterly shocked I rolled my eyes

"this is the first time Anonymous has excepted a nickname!" Nū' said

"really?" Birch asked

"it's true" I said.

after a slice of cake we all left to go to our dorm rooms mine was right next to Birch's so I said good night to him before going to bed myself but at about 5am I heard a crash and a shout then silence it was coming from Birch's room so I put on a dress then I ran to his room the door was open when I walked in I saw a man climbing out the window

"STOP!" I shouted

he turned when I saw his eyes though my knees buckled and I collapsed next to Birch who was lying on the ground a dart stuck out the back of his neck

"Birch?" I whispered tears were streaming down my cheeks I took out my cell-phone and called 9-1-1

"hello how can I help you?" the voice at the other end of the phone said

"i am in dorm room 11 with an almost dead body I need an ambulance" I said firmly

"we will send an ambulance immediately" the voice said

"thank you" I said before hanging up then I started crying non stop. five minutes later I heard the wailing of the ambulance then workers came and took Birch out on a stretcher Apple, Cherry, A-More, and Spruce all came Apple sat next to me patting my shoulder while I cried next came Maple and Nū' Maple ran over and hugged me

"you ok?" she asked I nodded I hadn't spoken since I had called for the ambulance Nū' rushed over too

"what happened?" she asked

"dad was here" I said in barely a whisper

"WHAT!" Maple cried

"you have got to be kidding me!" Nū' said

"it's true" I said looking up at the worried faces I stood and ran out the door to my room I went in the closet found a necklace put it on then I pulled a lever that was on the wall a ladder fell in front of me I climbed up, it led to the very top of the tree I sat on a leaf and watched the sun rise then I stood and ran over to the very edge of the tree leaves they hung over the roof of the orphanage I jumped onto the roof and slipped through the air vents into the living room I landed and turned human size then I waited for the kids to wake up when they did they came into the room and gasped when they saw me

"hi" I said
