Delilah's P.O.V.
"Mom, I promise I'll be alright," I swore for the millionth time to my mother, switching the house phone from one ear to the other. "It's just for 3 nights, right?"
My parents were celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary, but mom, being my mom, kept having panic attacks, worrying about her only child being on her own for a few days. Sigh.
"Yes, but you know I can't help worrying about you," she sighed. "Especially in that neighbourhood."
"I'm 16 now, I am capable of looking after myself," I rolled my eyes.
"Besides, when has there ever been a crime on this street?"
"You can never know."
"Just go and enjoy your anniversary," I laughed. "Stop ringing me and celebrate with dad, okay?"
"Okay," she whined, making me laugh again. "I love you."
"I love you too."
I gently placed the phone in the cradle, stretching my arms out and yawning. It was about time I went to bed. Leaving the kitchen, I headed towards the stair case that would take me upstairs to my room, but I paused at the front door, the wailing of a police siren growing louder as it passed the my house, red and blue lighting up the room through the window.
I walked towards the door cautiously, going to unlock it, but jumped back with a yelp when I heard a sudden thump against it, the sound of something sliding down the wood and onto the floor following shortly after. Grabbing an umbrella for protection, I unlocked the deadbolt and carefully turned the doorknob, pulling the door towards and me and lifting the umbrella above my head.
The street was once again silent, restored to it's original darkness, so it took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust. Once they did, my eyes darted to the floor, finding the most gorgeous creature hunched over on the doorstep.
(oooh wonder who it is. ;) I will post the next part if this gets 10 votes and 5 comments, okay? Tell everyone you know, friends, parents, pets. I hope ya'll like it, I can already feel this book is going to be great!)
