Lauren kissed her handsome husband before walking out the door to go to work. Sadly, going to work was her favorite part of the day. Not because she loved her job, but so she was away from Jayce. Part of her knew that their relationship was unhealthy and unsafe. The other part of her loved him and couldn't think of leaving him. In his defense, out of the five years that they had been married, he had only been abusive for the last year and a half when he got a new job. Lauren jumped when she heard a car horn. She had been thinking again. She quickly waved at the driver she unintentionally cut off as a sign of apology and focused on the road. Soon she made it to her office. She was a psychologist for battered women. How ironic. As usual, her day ended at 5:30 after hearing many heart felt and tear jerking stories. Some days are more draining than others, and today was one of those days. As she pulled up in her driveway she muttered a slur of curse words when she saw her husbands car. He was home early and she hasn't cooked dinner yet. That meant that she is in for a long night. Because, every single day she cooks him dinner for when he gets home. She didn't even have a chance yet. That doesn't matter to him. All he cares about is that everything is done his way. She slowly and hesitantly gets out of her car. She then walks up to house while saying a quick prayer that he won't hurt her to bad. "Here goes nothing", she whispered under her breath as she opened the door.
"Babe? I am home.....", her words trailed off at the end because she saw something that never ends well. He was drunk. Not just the impaired drunk, but the drunk that he won't remember tonight. Shit. These are the moments when she wishes that he would just kill her.
"Hey Abbey", he slurred.
"My name isn't Abbey, it's Lauren.",she sighed when she automatically corrected him. That will only make him anger. And she was right. He came right after her with a bottle in hand. "Tonight is going to be hell", she whispered.
