A desperate gasp escaped from Ladybug's open mouth. Her heart wrenched painfully, a physical feeling that made her weak. She felt a sensation almost like dread but it was somehow... Worse. She tried to shake the feeling, thinking the dream she'd had while unconscious had sparked it. Something like a thought floated into her head as she oriented herself to the situation at hand. The thought grew into a feeling so powerful she knew instantly that it was true. Chat...
Chat noir had lost. He tried everything to avoid hand to hand combat with Hawkmoth, but it was no use. He'd only wanted to distract Hawkmoth so his Lady could get the hostages to safety. Hawkmoth had cornered him on the roof of the TV studio. He could feel the pain of internal bleeding and broken limbs as he fell to the ground. In a last desperate attack, Chat had used his cataclysm to destroy Hawkmoth, only leaving the moth brooch that had hung atop Hawkmoth's tie. It clattered to the ground with a sickening finality. The boy let out a desperate, painful gasp.
Chat Noir lay dying on the ground, a thin line of blood trickling from his mouth. His eyes flashed green as he looked for any more danger that might be lurking in the shadows. When he was convinced that he was by himself, he let himself go. His eyes watered until they gushed with tears. He let his mind go to his only source of happiness that had filled his short life.
Ladybug, Marinette.... The girl whom he loved so dearly he wasn't sure if he was ready to leave her. They still had so much to do with each other. He wanted to start a family with her, to marry her and to grow old with her by his side forever. Isn't it an ironic thing? When the person you need most just never comes to save you. He needed Ladybug in that moment, and so far she just hasn't come. There should be some sort of connection between you and the person you need, a connection that would let them know just how much you are hurting.
When Adrien's mom disappeared, the person he needed was his father, and let's just say he never ever came for him. Disappointment runs in this boy's veins. It's unnecessary to put someone so gentle and innocent in a position such as this.
He could feel his heart slowing, his breath shortening. As he was falling asleep, Plagg showed him visions of every single Chat Noir to grace this earth. An Egyptian man with an elaborate cat mask dead in the arms of His Lady. A man in renaissance clothing holding a woman in black and red with arrows sticking out from his back. And then there was him. The only Chat Noir to die without his partner. At least he could say he saved her.
Marinette tore into the room at that moment, tears streaming down her cheeks. She rushed to his side and cradled his head with her arms. He was looking up at her with a peculiar expression. Using the last of his strength, Chat put a hand to His Lady's stomach and smiled.
"Hey, Mari?" Chat coughed up more blood.
"Chat?"
"I love you." He said this firmly, looking into her eyes like he'd never see them again. He wanted to savor the exact color in them. He wanted to remember her in this way, saving everyone in her power. He wanted her....
Chat drifted off. Marinette looked panicked, her eyes wide with fear.
"Don't you dare... Don't you dare! Don't leave me like this. What am I supposed to do without you? Why do you have to leave? Stupid cat...." And Marinette washed Chat's blood away with only her tears. She hugged him tightly to her, wishing for all the universe that they would not take him from her.
Our world is a tragic place and we lead tragic lives. If there is anything I understand better than most, it's that wishes-that happy endings never work out for the people who want it most. The universe grants only wishes we think we want. Never have I seen the universe grant what I actually needed. Perhaps you can come up with a better ending for our two star-crossed lovers than I have. Good luck.
