Honestly, Lauren had no fucking idea what to say or do at this point. All this time the girl was deaf. Everything made sense and started to fall into place. Lauren felt like a dumbness but she felt better knowing the girl was not ignoring her but could not hear.

"I'M SO SORRY, I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE DEAF"

Lauren regretted her words 0.5 seconds after it all fell out her mouth like glass shattering on the ground.

Why was she so fucking stupid

Shoving pictures in a blind persons face won't make them see, of course yelling at a deaf person wouldn't make them hear.

The beautiful stranger raised an eyebrow before rolling her eyes in way Lauren could not recognize. The unknown girl  retrieved a pen and a notebook from her backpack before she wrote a short sentence before handing it to the green eyed beauty in front of her.

A universal smile spread across Lauren's face after reading the short note

A universal smile spread across Lauren's face after reading the short note. One moment she was completely embarrassed by her ignorant actions and now this almost reassured her.

Lauren swallowed before talking again. She wanted to make sure she spoke perfectly. She wanted to make sure it wasn't too slow and not too fast.

"I" she paused. "saw" pause "that" pause "you"

The unknown stranger shook her head with a smile. Usually things like this annoyed her to the fullest. 'Hearies' (slang for people with impeccable ears but inefficient brains) always bothered her but for some reason she adored how the green eyed undeniably gorgeous girl in front of her kept trying. Usually people ran the first time they embarrassed themselves because of her lack of hearing or because of her lack of hearing in general... .

She wrote another short sentence.

Lauren nodded her head after reading

Lauren nodded her head after reading. Still embarrassed but not completely. She thought the smilie faces after every sentence was cute and immediately liked the girl so far.

"I saw you were reading Paper towns by John Green and I was wondering if it was any good?" She lied. She thought John Green was overrated and read better fan fiction if she was being honest but she would say anything to talk to this girl.

The stranger nodded with a wide smile before writing in the blue notebook once more, Lauren adored the smile and missed it as soon as it left.

Lauren let out a small laugh

Lauren let out a small laugh. She wondered why the girl in front of her loved John Green so much, or reading in general, or why she was here at 2am on a Saturday night, or her favorite color, or what made her laugh, or what made her cry, or how she became deaf, or if she was born that way. She wanted to know everything.

Before Lauren was able to reply a loud voice over the Starbucks intercom announced her number.

"That's my number" she nervously blurted. The, still unknown, girl nodded. Lauren looked at the ground like it would tell her what to say next. "Thanks for helping me I guess" she finally let out with a smile. The deaf brunette smiled with a nod before returning her eyes to her book.

Lauren turned around and felt like she was leaving her sanity. She got her drink and sat in her car. The first thing she did was pull out her phone and googled.
