Lily sighed as she pulled the covers up over her head after pressing her snooze button for the third time. She knew she would be late for her first day of school but didn't seem to mind. The only reason she went nowadays is to make her parents proud, but even then, they never seemed to pay attention to her. She closed her eyes and started to drift back to sleep when her phone started to ring. "Ugh." She ripped the covers off of her body, deciding not to be late on the first day of school. She picked up her phone and answered the call.
"Hey! Where are you? I'm at the bus stop and you are nowhere in sight." Lily sighed, responding to her best friend Daisy. "I just got out of bed," Lily yawned, "what. You have to be kidding me..." She sounded sharp, it was unlike Daisy to yell or cry, but she was very strict, the exact opposite of Lily. "Lily, get out of bed, brush your teeth, brush your hair, and get dressed, you've got five minutes. I will not let you be late for the first day of our senior year." She hung up and left Lily standing there with the dial tone.
Lily put her phone down and went into her bathroom, brushing her teeth and hair, she knew she would not have time for breakfast, which she was okay with. She put on her usual outfit, which consisted of a gray beanie, a random band t-shirt (today it was Fall Out Boy), skinny jeans and converse. She ran out of her house and down the street seeing a moving truck on the corner. She got to the bus stop just a few seconds before the bus did. She hopped on and walked to the back of the bus where she and Daisy usually sat.
She plopped down next to Daisy and said "just in time" Daisy whispered "barely" as she turned her head towards the window, putting in her earbuds and listening to music. Lily did the same thing as she closed her eyes, hoping to get a few more minutes of shut-eye.

Lily awoke with a jolt when the bus came to a sudden stop. Her eyes fell upon the front of the bus where the bus driver was apologizing to the students. She was about to close her eyes when Daisy elbowed her side. "Ow! What was that for!?!?" Daisy's eyes were wide as she turned her direction to the front of the bus. Lily rolled her eyes and looked at the driver once more, seeing a new (cute) boy. She pretended to act uninterested as she put her earbuds back in her ears and leaned back in the seat.
It seemed like every time she tried to sleep, something would get in her way, this time, it was the new kid. Daisy being Daisy, she offered the new boy a seat next to them. He kindly accepted and sat next to them. Daisy immediately started talking to him. He was polite and answered every question Daisy asked, but in minimal detail. It seemed like he would rather be alone than be interrogated by Daisy. Lily looked outside of the window, letting her music whisk her away to another world.

When they finally got to school, Lily, Daisy, and the new kid all got off and went straight to the front office to get their schedules. "What classes do you have?" Daisy asked eagerly. Lily looked down at the paper, "history, gym, math, science, 1st lunch, study hall, and English." Lily said with a smile, she loved having lunch, study hall, and English in a row because she never ate lunch, and she gets to wander around the school during study hall and English since her teacher doesn't even teach. "I have everything except gym with you," Daisy exclaimed.
"Good, it will be just like last year," Lily said with a small smile. "I have the exact schedule" the new boy whispered. "As who?" Lily and Daisy said at the same time. He slowly pointed to Lily. "Oh... I guess I get to be your guide" Lily said heading to her locker. Their lockers were right next to each other, most likely because (Lily assumed) they all had the same first letter in their last name. They all put their stuff away, being sure to master their own locker combinations and each others, just in case.
Because their bus driver was always early, they got to school 45 minutes before anybody else, so the halls were pretty much empty. "I'm gonna go to the library, okay?" "Yeah sure just don't be late to first period," Lily responded to Daisy. Daisy skipped down the hall and turned the corner, no longer visible. "So new kid, what's your name?" Lily asked the shy boy. "Ethan" he whispered. "Cool, I'm so glad it's not Herbert or something stupid." Ethan chuckled.
