Dal Sae's pov:
I stared at the calendar for a while thinking of what I could possibly do. It made a lot more sense now as to why he had been by himself more than usual. I sat at the table eating my food thinking of what I could do. I could make him a cake but that could take a while... I didn't even know what he did and didn't like. Would he even want a cake? Would he eat it? Would he yell at me? But I decided that no one should spend a lonely birthday even if they were horrible rude jerks and so I set out to buy a cake.

L's pov
As I laid on my couch reading manga I decided I was hungry and walked to the kitchen where I thought I would see Dal Sae who was the only maid in the house. I needed her to make me some food but she wasn't even in her room. Looks like I'm really alone again this year.

No one's pov:
Dal Sae walked carefully around the dark streets in search of the one store she knew would be open so late. She went in and chose a chocolate cake enough for 5 people even though it would only be them. She also bought some flowers. On her way out she saw beautiful sheets of origami paper and remembered all of the papercranes L had in his room that she'd seen while she cleaned. It was probably the only thing they had in common so she bought that too.

Back at home L took a shower and laid back on his couch eating some cookies he'd found and watching television.

When Dal Sae arrived home L heard the front door open and stared at his bedroom door 'you're back' he thought but kept eating his cookies and ignored the fact that she was back. For some reason he wanted to go downstairs and ask where she'd been but he didn't.

Dal Sae placed the cake on a tray along with two plates, forks and a small knife and placed a black candle star on top of the cake. She also placed multiple paper cranes around the tray and held the flowers along her side as she walked up the stairs.

L's pov: I became unreasonably angry about the fact that Dal Sae had left and came back without letting me know to the point where I angrily got off my bed and yanked my door open ready to go yell at her.

Dal Sae's pov:
I stood by young master rich jerks room afraid to knock on his door. Maybe I should just leave I thought, no I have to but as soon as I lifted my hand to knock, the door was suddenly wide open.

No one's pov:
Dal Sae and L both stood on either side of the door frame staring at each other. Dal Sae lowered her hand to hold the tray with both hands and L's eyes went from her eyes to the tray back up to her eyes. "Ha-happy... birthday" she said,"would...you maybe want to eat some cake together?". L was speechless. What could he say?he now realised why she'd left and came back. He then opened the door wider as she walked in and closed the door. He walked towards the couch and sat down. Dal Sae placed the cake on the table right in front of them and sat down on the other side of the couch. Both of them simply stared at the cake in silence. Until L finally spoke. "How did you know it was my birthday? " he asked. "From a calendar" she replied and he only nodded. "Happy Birthday" she said as she smiled warmly and sincerely at him for the first time. This caught L as a surprise as he only looked at her watching her wavy hair frame her face and her beautiful smile.

Dal Sae lit the candle star and very softly sang him happy birthday. As she held the cake up to his face so he could blow out the flame.

L's pov:
I could tell how nervous she was as she moved her hands and feet. I must have scared her so many times that she became afraid of me. Her voice was soft and it wavered with her nervousness and her hands shook while she held the cake up to me telling me to make a wish.
I blew out the candle wishing that all my future birthdays would feel like this.
