CHAPTER TWO
SERENA'S POV
I woke up to the sunlight streaming into our tent. I yawned and stretched out, opening my eyes. I sat up and looked next to me – but the sleeping bag was empty. Looks like Bonnie was already up.
I quickly got changed and did my hair, then emerged from the tent, where Bonnie and Clemont were making breakfast.
"Good morning!" Clemont smiled.
"Morning, Clemont," I replied happily. "Morning, Bonnie."
All of my Pokémon and Pikachu were out, helping make breakfast as well. "Need any help?" I asked.
Clemont shook his head. "I think we're just about done," he said. "All we need is to set it out on the table."
"I can do that!" I chirped, and took everyone's bowls and plates over to the table.
I looked around. "Where's Ash?" I asked.
"He's still not awake yet," Clemont explained.
"Well, I'll go wake that sleepyhead up!" Bonnie exclaimed, marching over to Ash's tent.
Just as Bonnie reached the tent, Ash emerged. He was sweating, and he looked red.
"Good morning, sleepyhead!" Bonnie chimed. Ash ignored her and walked over to me slowly. Something wasn't right...
"Ash?" I asked as he got closer.
Suddenly, he fell onto me. I caught him and hoisted him back up, blushing. His face was in very close proximity to mine...
"Ash!" I yelled.
He mumbled something I couldn't understand, then dropped on one knee, looking me directly in the eyes. My face was as red as a tomato.
"Serena... I..." he stuttered.
I squealed and closed my eyes. What was he going to say?
"I... Iron Tail... Pikachu..." he trailed off and collapsed at my feet. What?
"Ash!" I yelled, kneeling down and sitting him up. Clemont and Bonnie came running over.
"What happened?" Clemont asked.
"I don't know!" I replied.
I pressed my hand to Ash's forehead. I immediately had to pull it away – he was boiling hot!
"He has a fever," I exclaimed. "We need to lay him down. Will you help me carry him to his tent, Clemont?" I asked.
"Of course!" Clemont replied.
I turned to Bonnie. "Could you please get a bowl of cold water from the stream?" I asked.
Bonnie nodded and ran off toward the stream.
Clemont and I put Ash's arms around each of our shoulders, and took him to his tent – laying him in his sleeping bag. Pikachu let out a worried cry.
"He'll be okay, Pikachu," I said.
"Do you know how this could have happened?" asked Clemont.
"He was training with his Pokémon in the stream late last night," I explained. Clemont nodded.
