CHAPTER SIX

SERENA'S POV

"Look! It's just up ahead!" Bonnie exclaimed happily, pointing to the exit of the forest.

"Race you there!" Ash laughed, taking off running. I smiled and followed suit, running alongside him and Bonnie.

"Hey, guys! Wait for me!" Clemont groaned, picking up his pace.

We broke through the exit of the forest, and when I saw the scenery, I gasped in awe.

"It's beautiful," I breathed.

The town was covered in a thick blanket of white powder, and it was snowing very lightly. All the houses were lit up with fairy lights, twinkling softly.

I stuck my hand out and caught a snowflake. I smiled at it briefly, admiring it, but it soon melted in my warm hands.

Ash closed his eyes and sighed. I walked over next to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He opened his eyes and looked at me.

"There's no need to be nervous, Ash," I smiled at him, bringing my other hand into a fist and placing it by my heart. "You've trained so hard for this – I know you can win!"

"Thanks, Serena," Ash grinned, turning to face the gym. "Let's go!"

We all walked slowly towards the gym, trying not to slip on the icy floor. When we reached the gym, two guards stepped in front of the doors.

"Before you go in, you'll need to put on some warmer clothes," the guard on the left said.

"Wulfric is a user of Ice types, so the gym is kept at a freezing cold temperature," the guard on the right advised us.

We all nodded in understanding, and each took our coats, gloves, beanies, and snow boots out of our backpacks. When we were all rugged up, the guards stepped away from the doors and let us through.

As soon as we stepped through the doors, a shiver ran down my spine. Those guards were right – it was so cold, I could see my own breath.

"It's so cold," Bonnie complained. Clemont responded by bringing her to his side.

We reached the battlefield, where Wulfric was waiting. Ash stepped forward.

"Welcome, Trainers," Wulfric said. "Congratulations on making it this far."

"My name is Ash Ketchum, and I come from Pallet Town. I challenge you to a battle!" Ash said with determination in his voice.

"How many Gym badges do you have?" Wulfric asked Ash.

"Seven. This will be my last one – after I win," Ash grinned.

"Very well. I sense you are ready – this will be your last Gym challenge." Wulfric replied, taking his place at the end of the battlefield.

Ash took his place, while Clemont, Bonnie and I walked to the sidelines.

"This match will be a three-on-three battle. The match will be over when all three of one side's Pokémon are unable to continue," the referee yelled. "Battle, begin!"

"Abomasnow – I need your assistance!" Wulfric yelled, sending out his Pokémon.

"Hawlucha – I choose you!" Ash exclaimed.
