Chapter 3

Kora's POV

The next couple of days have been miraculously incredible for me ever since Carter has introduced himself to me and bringing down delicious food for me every day. It, has helped me gain a little more weight. Instead of looking like just skin and bones, i had small muscles in my arms and calves from the workouts Carter has been making me do to regain my physical health and strength.

After having a few bonding conversations with him, i found out that the pack has left for the rest of the week to "handle" some buisness with a rival pack. But using my common sense, that basically decodes into killing them them all. No mercy even if they ask for gods savior.

That was just how the pack is, violent and ruthless whenever it comes to anyone but each other. Then theres my brother Carter who was compassionate and so loving. I still couldn't believe that he was one of them. Actually no, he was considered one of them but in the inside he was no where near that monstrous behavior.

"Don't you ever get bored down here?" Carter asked as we were sitting on the basement floor playing a game of cards.
"Of course i do, but it's not like i can go anywhere else". I answered disappointed. "Come" Carter stood pulling me up along with him. He dragged me to the door leading up to the creepy staircase. "Wait where are we going?" I asked as i tried to drag my worn out slippers on the ground trying to stop him from going any further. "Somewhere, now lets go!" He said pulling me a little more with force. I stood my ground, i am not going anywhere with him till he tells me where he's leading me to.

"I'm still the older one so tell me where we're going or i'm staying right here." I said stubbornly. He let out a big sigh "I'm obviously taking you up the stairs, through the pack house, out the back door, and into the field you dummy. Now can we go?" He whined. I rolled my eyes and followed.

I walked through the pack house seeing as it hasn't changed as much since the last time i saw it a decade ago. The only difference is the pack tree on the wall that was now filled with many werewolves. The pack tree is basically like a family tree with all the wolves lining up starting with the Alpha, the Luna, the offsprings of the couple above(Carter), the Betas, then the Omegas. The first years living above the basement was pretty empty cause my father wanted to take his time to gain power and then recruit pack members after he murdered my mom since she gave him a weak daughter instead of a future leader.

I stared at the picture of Laila, Carters mother wanting to shred it to tiny pieces but i couldn't sadly. I wanted to run my fingers across the smooth looking mahogany chairs, feel the maroon colored velvet couches, and the beautiful looking statute of a full moon on a stand. "Kora don't touch anything or someone could pick up your scent, its pretty strong no offense." He said throwing a small smile my way apologetically. I pulled my hand away before making contact with the surfaces recalling Carter's recent warning.

We shortly entered a giant field filled with flowers and tall trees, overlooking the horizon. Before i knew it i shifted into my small brown wolf and ran across the field in delight. Howling loud but not too loud for the entire world to hear. I glanced back at a smirking Carter and ran in circles making my wolf laugh at me. "You silly child" She teased. Seconds later i was accompanied during my run by a larger grey wolf and we jumped over logs and ducked under tree's, rolling around in the tall grasses.

I've never felt so alive and free. Freedom was all i've ever wanted. I had a chance to experience this great feeling for a while cause i obviously couldn't escape since Carter was the only one at home, my father would definitely know it was him who set me free. I whimpered at the thought of my brother getting punished by the man who did it to me so often, most of the time for no reason. Carter gave me a confused look but i returned a smile reassuring him that i was okay.

I felt like i could run and soar miles from here, i loved this feeling of adrenaline running through my veins and the rest of my body. I never wanted this moment to end. But thats when we heard it, we paused in our spots to hear paws hitting the ground and howling a couple of miles away approaching the front of the pack house. Happiness was over, the pack was coming home.
