Chapter 6

Carter's POV

"Do it." My wolf growled at me.

"No."

"Do it NOW Carter, you have to protect her." His anger is rising causing me to get more annoyed than ever.

"No, it's too risky, i'll get myself caught and i'll get Kora into so much trouble... I could be the cause of her death." I shot back. Looking up at the ceiling of my bedroom, i sat there arguing with my wolf whether or not i should escape with Kora before my parents get their hands on her later today for her 18th birthday; the day her strongest shift takes place.

All of the different things that they might torture her with just to prevent her from shifting ran through the thoughts in my mind. Whips, wolfsbane, injecting silver in her blood, get other wolves to attack her, the possibilities were endless just causing me to groan in frustration. I really wanted to get her out of here but i don't know if i can or where we'll even go.

"They didn't help Tania when her life was being on the very thin line of death. They kept and tortured Kora from you for years Carter. Think about what else they might even lied to you about, do they even care about you? Or does David just want you to run the pack while Laila follows his every step. David killed his own true mate just cause she didn't give him the son he wanted, instead she gave him YOUR sister."

I stopped breathing and stayed still, taking in all of the information my wolf just told me.

"How do you know my father did that to Kora's mother.." I trailed off my voice cracking. I knew Kora has been deeply hurt and depressed due to my father, but i didn't know he done such a thing to her that could leave a permanent hole in her heart. My heart starting aching as i imagined feeling her pain, even though i wasn't close to my mother as she probably was.

"Because you guys are family, i can mind link her wolf. I can make you feel whatever she feels if shes hurt, right now that pain you're feeling from within is because she just had a terrible nightmare dealing with her mom......she witnessed her blood splatter, her screaming pain, her eyes closing slowly, her being gone forever". My wolf started whimpering as the sad details started making sense to me.

"How come the family mind link thing

doesn't work with me and my parents?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows.

"You never let your parents in...you just blocked them out Carter, even before you knew what they are really like."

"But its only been about a week since i met Kora, why is the bond so strong already?"

"Well maybe you do truly care for her..."

With those last few words he told me, i got up in lightning speed getting a duffle bag filling it with clothes and shoes and whatever i needed for the escape attempt. I walked over to my bedside table and put on my watch, staring at the framed picture of me and Tania holding hands laughing at a park made my whole body feel weak. I wanted to die right there on my dirty floor. I quickly grabbed the photo and gently placed it in the bag.

I went through Tania's closet getting a second duffle bag and a couple of clothes for Kora, knowing that Tania wouldn't mind....i hope. I got my credit card just in case we needed to buy stuff on the way to wherever we're going. Standing at the door, i eyed the room making sure i wasn't leaving anything i needed behind. With one final look, i walked down the hall to the flight of stairs into the second story of the building right into the kitchen.

Water bottles and snacks soon filled half of our bags after 10 minutes. I left the bags hidden behind a potted plant by the back door as i quietly made my way down into the basement. My wolf was right. At the bottom of the stairs i saw a panicked and scared Kora, crying herself to sleep.
