Chapter Seven

Lexus

Lexus felt miserable. He felt numb and hollow and angry all at once. He didn't mean to tell Tina all that last night. But she had to know that he didn't plan this. He was a victim of circumstances just like Gage.

He packed his bags and called a taxi. Deciding to at least tell them he was leaving face to face. Lugging his bags down to the lobby to wait for his taxi he took a fortifying breath and hoped steel would replace his spine when he did arrive at Gage's house.

When the taxi finally pulled up Lexus tossed his luggage in the trunk carelessly and gave the cabbie the address of Gage's house.

His mind swam with all kinds of scenarios. Would Gage throw him out? Would Tina?

The only thing he could think of doing was leave. Out of sight; out of mind.

But would it work?

Lexus knew in his heart that he'd think of Gage every day. He'd love Gage with all his heart. Always.

"Hello Lexus" Tina says surprised. She looked just as miserable as Lexus felt.

"Hi Tina" Lexus voice cracked and he was just a hair away from breaking out in unmanly sobs but he still held Tina's eyes for a moment before quickly looking away.

"Come in" she held the door for him.

"Is.. Is he home? Can I talk to him?" Lexus asked anxiously.

"He's in his room let me see if he'll see you" she said. Lexus nodded his throat tight.

Lexus stood awkwardly until Tina came back; his eyes remained on the stairs hoping with all his heart that Gage would come down and dreaded it at the same time.

"I'm sorry sweetheart. He's.. He said he can't" her eyes filled with tears causing his own to sting.

"Ok" Lexus whispered "I'm.. I have to... I'm sorry Tina but I'm leaving."

"What? Are you sure Lexus?" Tina asked surprised.

"Yea... I.. Can't stay Tina... I can't.. I have to leave for both our sakes" Lexus says.

"Where are you heading?" Tina asked on a big breath.

"Back home. Take that job offer from my mom's boyfriend."

"Oh? What about here. New York?"

"I was supposed to go to an interview here. That's why I didn't hesitate to fall for him" Lexus mumbled.

"I don't think I wouldn't have either way but it'll be too hard to stay away if I'm so close" Lexus finished, his heart spasm at the thought of leaving Gage behind.

"Alright. Lexus I'm sorry. I.. " Tina cried but Lexus wouldn't let his own tears fall. He hugged Tina for a moment.

"Thank you for inviting me here. Take care and tell Gage... Tell him I'm sorry and... tell him that I love him" Lexus released her and stepped back.

Taking one final glance at the stair case Lexus left the house. Taking a shuddering breath he slowly walked to the cab. His heart heavy. His body numb.

"Lexus!" he heard someone yell just as he opened the door to the cab.

He turned to see Gage running towards him. Thank god. Lexus met him half way, grabbing Gage up in a tight hug as a sob broke from his chest and up his throat as Gage's arms came around Lexus' neck and his legs wrapped around Lexus' hips.

"Don't go! Please" Gage cried and if Lexus could he would stay.

"I'm sorry baby but I have to" Lexus says fiercely.
