Chapter 35
"HARDER!" Jay yelled, as I moved down the line of exhausted pack fighters breaking each board in half.
"FASTER!" Liam screamed from beside him, giving me a hard stare.
I groaned and reached the final board kicking it with all my might, before dropping down on the ground trying to catch my breath. My brothers stood over me giving me a nod of approval, as I tiredly raised my hand and flipped them the bird in reply. They chuckled, before my mates hurried to my side Tyler picking me up bridal style.
"You guys can take her to rest now, we're done for the next hour." Jay laughed, as I gave him an annoyed look.
The boys had been working me like a dog for this battle; they claimed that I was too lazy and needed to get a stronger sense of stamina, so they've literally woken me up every morning at 5am and only allow me 1 hour breaks every 4 hours. My mates took turns carrying me to the bedroom where they would massage all my training pain away and keep my hopes up about the battle.
It was only 2 weeks away now and I was worried that there would be another attack soon. Everyone was on high alert; the boys even went as far as letting the women train which gave me a little sense of pride. No other pack ever let women fight, so my pack would be the first to have women warriors, which would hopefully catch the enemy off guard. I let out a tired groan, as the boys opened my bedroom door and lightly placed me onto our bed.
Elliot lightly turned me over to my stomach and began massaging my back, while Logan worked on my shoulders and Tyler worked his way down my calves to my feet. I moaned in appreciation of the pain relief and closed my eyes letting my mind wonder about who my final made would be. I had yet to find him, which didn't particularly upset me, just worried me somewhat. I hoped I would find them when everything was safe. It would be great to just focus on my wonderful mates instead of this upcoming battle.
A knock sounded from my door and I sighed as the boys stopped massaging me to open the door. I flipped over and watched as one of the pack members entered placing a little piece of paper in front of me. I picked it up gingerly, opening it up feeling my eyes widen. "No way..." I mumbled.
"What?" Logan asked coming to my side to read the letter.
Elliot and Tyler surrounded me as well scanning over the letter before looking at me. "Could this be true?" I questioned looking at my mates.
"That... We cannot answer..." Elliot sighed.
"I'm going to look in the library about this." I groaned standing up from my bed.
"Good luck babe," Tyler called, as I walked out of the room looking at the letter again.
Who the heck entered me as a judge in a freaking supernatural pageant? And who on earth would actually accept me into a pageant as a judge? If it was Avery, I swear I was going to make her take my place. As I looked closer at the letter, I noticed the fine print stated that it was a male pageant. Oh the boys would not like this...
*****
As I looked through the library I found out that a supernatural pageant did exist and only the elite of the elite would be participating in the pageant. There would be a category for every type of supernatural; there was even a human portion. The judges tended to be the richest and most gorgeous supernatural beings so I was confused as to why simple me would be chosen.
I sighed and picked up my seer journal and looked through images, checking events that had happened before finding a particular one of the pageant. The man in the picture radiated power and I felt as if I recognized their face before, but couldn't place it. The image of them felt comforting, almost matching the strength of feelings I held for Tyler, Elliot and Logan. I knew instantly that he was my last mate. I closed the book and put the thought in the back of my mind, knowing I would see him soon enough. Two days in time actually.
"LESLIE TIME FOR TRAINING!" I heard my brothers chime from somewhere in the house. I groaned and thought about escaping, before removing that thought from my mind and exiting the library and following the annoying sound of their screams.
"I'm right here guys!" I screamed, covering my ears to lessen the sound of their yelling.
My brothers looked over to me and laughed, before surrounding me singing a loud off key version of 'We are Family.' I covered my ears wincing at how horribly it sounded, before feeling my wolf senses kick in. My wolf let out a piercingly loud growl causing my brothers to silent, before they looked at each other and high fived. I covered my mouth and stared wide eyed at the boys; that sounded more like a lion roar then a growl...
"Training over!" My brothers grinned at me.
"What was that!?" I shouted at them, crossing my arms over my chest.
"You just found your ruler growl," they laughed, before leaving me alone to my shock.
*****
"You guys should have heard it! It was so cool!" Keith yelled excitedly, beside my brothers.
I shook my head, blushing as my mates and parents beamed at me with pride. I was planning on telling them about the supernatural pageant, but the boys wouldn't stop blabbering about my ruler growl. It was kind of embarrassing that they were making such a big deal out of it, but I guess it was since I was the soon to be ruler.
"Um... Anyway I wanted to tell you all that I'm a judge in this year's Supernatural pageant."
The table went silent and my father looked at my brothers and mother a stern expression making its way onto his face. "I wished that this day hadn't come, but I guess its time." He sighed.
"What is it dad?" Avery questioned, before I could.
"This pageant isn't really a pageant. It's an auction. These contestants are typically rated by the judges and then the winners are bought off by packs, in hopes of getting them to mate with a pack leader. They tend to release the winners if they haven't mated with the pack leader, but its quite rare since the contestants really need these pageants to support their packs. The humans participating in the pageant tend to be there only as a cover, but some are there hoping to join our world." My father explained.
"That wasn't in the book..." I mumbled, looking down at my plate.
"Leslie dear, if you do this pageant you must be ready to do whatever means necessary to keep order and maybe end this pageant once and for all. I've been trying for decades, but maybe as the new ruler you can sway them..." My father sighed.
"But... My mates one of the competitors..." I gasped.
"Then may the odds be ever in the favor of you and all your mates in winning him." My mother murmured taking my hand.
