DAY 7 PART 2

"And-and then I said, uhhh, I said, 'I WANNA EGG' and then I went to grab the egg... but guess what happened?" Cassidy asked Annabelle for the hundredth time.

"You grabbed your tittie," Annabelle said flatly.

"I grabbed my tittie," Cassidy laughed, she laughed so hard she fell back onto the mattress and just laid there until she fell asleep.

"How drunk is she?" Kieran asked from the passengers seat.

"I found an empty bottle of Fireball in her bag," I said.

"And that girl can not hold her alcohol," Annabelle muttered half sympathetically.

"See if you can get her something to cover her eyes at the gas station," Kieran added.

I closed my eyes and leaned against my backpack, closing my eyes.

As we drove I felt my phone vibrate, I pulled it out of my back and looked, it was an unknown number, with a Detroit area code. I didn't answer the call but slid the phone into my pocket.

When we reached the gas station I went inside, ducked down an aisle and pulled out my phone. I didn't know who was calling me, but who ever it was, I was going to tell them to fuck off.

I called the number back and waited as the phone rang.

"Steven!" a woman called as soon as the ringing stopped.
"Who is this?" I asked.

"It's doctor McHall," she said.

My doctor from Detroit.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"I was looking over your X-rays yesterday and I saw something."

"Yeah- that's a tumor, we've established that."

"No, it was about the tumor, we might be able to remove it."

My heart leapt, could I really get this thing out before it screws me over?

"Might?" I asked, choosing to mask my enthusiasm.

"Yeah, might," she said, "I would have to run a few tests first, before I know."

"You want me to come to you?" I asked.

"Yes, I need you here to take the tumor out... you're kind of important in that situation."

I looked around the gas station, the first thing that caught my eye was Nike bag that said Just do it. I took that as a sign.

"I'll come," I said.

"Oh good! Thank you!" she said.

"Under one condition," I interrupted.

"What?" Dr. McHall asked, sounding concerned.

"You tell no one I'm coming, not the cops, not my parents, no one, you understand?"

"Yes, but Steven, I feel as if I should tell you-"

"Tell me what?" I asked.

"Your parents, they uh, didn't quite tell the police you left," she said in a therapist-esque voice, as if I cared.

"Even better," I said, "I'll be there as soon as possible, just be ready."

I hung up the phone, grabbed some sunglasses and ran out.

"We have to go to Detroit," I said as soon as I got in the car.

"And I want to do meth, doesn't mean we should," Cassidy muttered from the back.
I threw the sunglasses at her.

"Ow," she said in the same monotone voice, then started laughing again.

"She doesn't make that much sense but I agree with what I understand," Kieran said.

"No! You don't understand! My doctor said she might be able to remove the tumor, but we have to get to the hospital soon so she can run tests!" I blurted.

Kieran and Annabelle looked at each other, and Kieran hit the gas, we flew out of the gas station.

I was returning.
