Chapter 11
Copy swung down Hook with lightning speed, but Light managed to catch the blow and interpret the next move. The tell tail sign, a step to the left, showed her that Copy was going to attempt a wide cut. Am I really this sloppy when I fight?, she thought exasperated. Light scolded herself for doing that type of thing in the first place. Hookeye blurred as it blocked Hook and came to slide slash Copy. Copy caught the attack and slammed Light’s blade to the side.
This had been going on for four days straight. The moment Copy had transformed into her, the fight had begun. Copy mimicked Light’s every fighting habit, Light’s every weakness and strength, so that both of them were completely and utterly evenly matched. Only when Light logged out did the fight stop, but the second she logged in again, it was off to fighting.
Light was trapped inside the garden, and every time she had the hope that the idiotic log-in would send her somewhere else, like it usually did, she appeared smack dab in front of Copy and Hook’s wrath. Other was reduced to the square mile garden of ice. And though Light was pissed about it, and had made up new swear words in the process of reappearing, when she was off to fighting again, she couldn’t concentrate on anything else. Unless that is if she was complaining to herself-
Copy’s Hook caught Light momentarily off guard and smashed against Hookeye with a metallic clang. Fudge!, Light thought trying to get her sword into a more comfortable position. With the angle of strength and the balance of weight Copy had gotten to her advantage, Light’s efforts on keeping upright were soon crushed and she was brought to her knees.
I thought I had learned how to keep a sword upright in an awkward position, when Gon made me pose for him as a model!, she thought angrily, If so, then why the heck does this feel so unbearable?
Light was screwed. With the way things were working out at the moment, there was no possible way to gain the upper hand. It seems funny, she thought, her muscles straining painfully, This reminds me a lot of Gon’s painting – almost too much. Now that she thought about it, the circumstances were a carbon copy: She found herself in a beautiful garden, she was fighting against a copy of herself and she was being crushed under the copy’s sword. Time, she thought, remembering the buyer’s name. Time is playing tricks on me.
Just as her arms were going to finally give in, she heard the windy voice of the monster’s voice in her ear.
“Imagine what your sword should do,” it whispered, but Copy’s lips did not move, “And it will happen.”
And so, since she had no other possibility, Light mindlessly followed the order, closed her eyes and imagined. In a split second Hookeye’s blade stretched out, warping its way around the back of Copy and stabbed her from the back.
It was a very disconcerting feeling seeing a copy of yourself being stabbed, and definitely not something Light would willingly experience again. But even more disconcerting than that, was when the enemy you just stabbed heals up right in front of you.
With another combination of sickly cracks the gaping, bloody hole Hookeye had just made in Copy vanished and was replaced with solid pink skin. The only detail that showed that she had been stabbed was the slice in the garment she wore.
Light gaffed at the creature before her. How the heck was she supposed to kill something that could heal itself? She needed some sort of heal-ability-countdown-sidebar like they had in the video games Rain liked to play, or else she would lose hope all together! But Hookeye came to her rescue as it returned to its normal form and its single eye started to glow.
“Again.” It said in complete computerized monotony. A monotony that at that moment sounded strong, sounded trust worthy. A monotony that was a straightforward order.
