Chapter One

As another school day finally arrived I just didn't feel like getting out of bed. Between the high school jocks playing pranks on my friends and I to all the homework I just wanted to stay home for the week. My names Stephanie and I'm sadly only 16 and considered one of the high school nerds.

My morning has already started out crappy because I went to bed late and it's already a school day and all I wanna do is sleep. As I began to fall back to sleep my best friend Lisa called me, "Hey you don't plan to play hooky again do you?", out of all of my friends Lisa knew me the best.

"Well....I was kind of planning on it."

"I hope you know you can't continue to avoid it forever"

"Yeah I know, I promise I'll be there today"

After finally getting off of the phone with her I gathered the strength to get out of bed and get dressed. I made my way down stairs for breakfast where I found my mom and little brother Aaron.

"I made you some breakfast sweetie, wasn't to sure if you were gonna be going today"

"I wasn't going to but Lisa wants me to , still not feeling the greatest"

As far as my mother knew, I was sick with a high temperature and an upset stomach.

"Did you try to explain to Lisa that you aren't feeling well?"

"Yeah but she wants me there because we have a project to finish for science"

My mom works as a lawyer so the only time we really see her the most is at breakfast time. As for my dad, well he ended up walking out after my brother was born and we haven't heard anything since.

"Are you working late again today mom"

"Now Stephanie you know that I've been working on a really important case"

"I know, I was just hoping that maybe we could finally have a family dinner together......"

"I know honey but I promise you as soon as I finish with this case we will."

I really didn't say to much more because I know that my mom was upset enough that she couldn't be home with us for dinner or attend any of our school activities. Even when I would tell her that we understood that it wasn't her fault she just didn't seem to listen to me because she wanted to be there for us, but being a single parent isn't the easiest for her.

With my mom working so much I try to do as much as I can for Aaron, like dropping him off at school and picking him up as well as taking him to any of his after school programs or games that may be going on.

"Aaron do you need me to pick you up after school today, or are you going over to Stevens' house?"

"I'm not to sure yet, we made plans but then he told me that his family might be going somewhere today so I won't know till I get to school"

"Ok well I will need you to let me know as soon as possible that way I know if i have time to hang out with Lisa."

"Well then I wouldn't worry about it because I don't know if I'm going to see him before school starts."

"Okay then, I'll make sure to be there right after school."

I quickly finished eating my breakfast and ran up stairs to grab the rest of my things, as I grabbed my things I took a quick glance out my window and was caught by a weird figure standing across the street, but as quick as I noticed him he was gone. I shook it off thinking maybe I was just seeing things, it could be possible with as much that has been going on.
