A stray beam of sunlight cast itself on JJ's face, waking her almost instantly. She was about to get up and run for a shower, when she realised she couldn't move. Peeling her eyes open she soon realised why.
Wilson was asleep beside her, arms holding her gently against his side, the pair of them comfortably curled up under the blankets. Wilson was still in his jeans from the day before, but at some point had ditched his hoodie and t-shirt. Smiling to herself, JJ leaned over the detective's sleeping form to kiss the tip of his nose in an attempt to wake him.
It worked. With a groan he dropped his arms and rubbed his eyes. When the events of last night came back to him he grinned before turning to look at JJ.
"Morning." She giggled, catching a glimpse of his sleep-tousled hair. She reached out with one hand to smooth down a rogue chunk that was stuck out above his eyebrow.
"Hey," he shot back, yawning and shifting against his pillow. He leant forwards and used one hand to tilt her head back, kissing her softly and beaming at the smile she responded with.
"So...last night."
"What about it?"
"We kissed."
"Well done Captain Obvious." He deadpanned, sticking his tongue out at her. JJ hit his arm playfully.
"Shut up. I just meant...I mean..."
"What does it make us?"
"Yeah that."
"How about we don't label it? It is what it is and leave it at that."
She deliberated for a moment before nodding.
"I like that plan."
"Me too. Now, I need coffee."
JJ threw a pillow at him for ruining the moment, laughing as he grunted in surprise. What turned into a one off incident turned into a full blown pillow fight - resulting in all the cushions and blankets being hauled onto the floor as Wilson pinned her into the mass of material, the two locked in a fevered kiss, limbs tangled.
They made it to the kitchen eventually; JJ switching on the radio and Wilson messing around with the coffee machine until he finally got it to work. 'Bittersweet' by Panic! At The Disco had just started playing; JJ was dancing around the kitchen with a piece of toast in her hand as she sang along with the song. Wilson watched, amused at the sight.
"Everything I do is bittersweet, you could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat. I'm not trying to hurt you I just love to speak."
At this point JJ picked up a bottle of water from the counter and started to use it as a microphone.
"It feels like we're pulling teeth, so bittersweet!"
He laughed, shaking his head at her madness. The moment was quickly dampened when JJ's phone rang. She answered it after the third ring, cursing about interrupting her halfway through a song.
-
"What was that about?" Wilson asked after she put the phone down, noting her thunderous expression.
"The lab's backed up, so we won't get the results back until tomorrow at the earliest."
"So what do we do all day?" He sighed, draining his coffee and putting it down in the sink.
"I don't know. I'm not over-keen on the idea of going back to the moor. Not with all that stuff going in there."
"Yeah I suppose you're right."
JJ stopped to think for a minute, nose wrinkled as she tried to come up with a plan for the day.
"We could just watch movies all day?"
"All day?"
She just laughed at him, grabbing his hand and dragging the slightly startled detective towards the living room and the giant TV. There was a huge stack of DVDs beside it - Wilson was sure there must be hundreds of titles there.
"So which ones do you want to watch first?"
It was beginning to get dark outside; Wilson was confused. They'd been laid beside each other on the sofa for almost the entire day, JJ resting against Wilson's side, eyes occasionally drifting from the screen to look at him. So far they'd watched Die Hard - which Wilson had liked, but only because there were explosions; Scott Pilgrim vs The World - which the detective had called ridiculous and had rolled his eyes at every opportunity; and Third Star - which Wilson had claimed was predictable until it got to the end. JJ swore she saw tears rolling down his cheek, but didn't address it and instead just curled into his side and wiped away her own tears. It had been a good afternoon, until his phone rang halfway through Looper.
"Who's that?" She mumbled, raising her head from his chest half-heartedly as the screen lit up. Wilson fumbled for his phone, glancing at the caller ID with barely open eyes.
"Hello?"
"Wilson! How're you doin'?"
McKein was slurring his words, he was clearly drunk and by the sounds of the noises in the background he was at a club. Wilson grinned, sitting up and leaning back into the sofa.
"Enjoying the night life McKein?" He laughed, listening to the city officer chuckling hysterically.
"Sure, sure. It ain't as fun without our favourite detective with us though, right lads?"
There was a yell of approval from the other end of the line, making Wilson's smile grow.
"When're you coming home mate?"
"Not sure if I'm honest. We reckon the case only has a couple more weeks on it."
"And what about this chick you're staying with? What's her name again?" McKein muttered, sounding puzzled by his own question.
"You mean JJ?" She looked up at Wilson at the mention of her name, "Yeah, she's great. We're getting on really well actually."
There was a chorus of wolf-whistles from McKein's end.
"Ooh sounds like someone's getting some!"
"Shut it McKein," Wilson blushed, but JJ seemed unfazed.
"Can I talk to her?"
"No! You're not talking to her."
"Aw c'mon Wilson, you're no fun. Put your girlfriend on!"
Before he could reply JJ took the phone from him with a sly grin, ignoring the shocked look on the detective's face.
"Hey, so you're McKein then?"
JJ ended up talking to McKein for the rest of the movie, and when she finally put the phone down Wilson couldn't help but feel worried about what his friend had actually said to her.
Instead of informing him of what the conversation had contained, she just laughed to herself before choosing another movie for them to watch.
