When the bell rang, I placed the paper in my binder and packed up my things. I thought about saying goodbye to Ashton or wishing him luck on his first day but before I could agree on what to do, he had already walked out of the classroom, disappearing into a crowd of students.My second period class went by quite fast and I found myself hurrying to my locker before the third period bell rang.
When I opened my locker, I grabbed my History textbook and made my way to class.
I sat in my normal seat and awaited my teachers arrival.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" says a familiar voice.
I look up to see Ashton.
"Yeah. . if you want. No one sits there." I say.
He nods and takes a seat.
I'm not sure what to say or if I should say anything to him so I just stare at my notes."Thank you" he says.
"For what?" I respond as I turn to face him in my seat.
"For being friendly and letting me sit next to you. I appreciate it." he says with a smile.
He has a very nice smile.
"I..you're welcome.I say, returning his smile.
Being appreciated for my politeness doesn't happen often. I really just want to hug him for even talking to me but decide against it.
When our history teacher walked into class, we begun our lesson.
Within 20 minutes, I was already falling alseep.I rest my head on the desk and forced my eyelids open.
Everytime Mrs Carr looked my way, I gave her a tiny smile. I didn't want her to think I wasn't paying attention. Its just hard to stay energized when she's lecturing you for 75 minutes straight.
I felt a little nudge on my shoulder and right away I looked up at Ashton. He looked completely knocked out on his desk.
Way to make a first impression.
When I looked away, a somewhat familiar voice whispered to me.
"On your shoulder" said Ashton.
I'm completely lost. I thought he was alseep.
I run my hand over my shoulder to find a sticky note.
*Are you as bored as I am?* It read.
I pull out my pen and write back.
*Idk. Have you had to pinch yourself to stay awake yet?*
I gently move the note onto his desk. He picks up his pen and flips the note onto its back.
*No but I've been daydreaming about pizza. Is that normal?*
He slides it back my way.
* I'm not the right person to give you advice on what is normal.*
*You seem pretty normal to me. You have lunch next right? *
As I read that note my heart began to race.
* Yes I do.* I wrote back.
*Sit with me?* He asked.
* Sure.* I replied.
He didn't return the note after that. Part of me really wanted him to continue the conversation but I didn't say anything.
I spent the rest of the class writing notes from Mrs. Carrs lecture.
