Later that evening Elena was in the kitchen as she prepared the dinner for both her and her father who was ten minutes away from returning back from town. She chopped up the vegetables as she threw them into a pan of boiling water as she prepared to boil the vegetables to go with the rest of the dinner. She brazened the two 8oz Sirloin Steaks as she placed them into the frying pan and allowed them to sizzle in the oil.
Knock, knock!
She turned her head quickly towards the door and then back to the steaks that were sizzling away in the pan, she turned down the heat and turned on her heels, grabbing a cloth beforehand as she wiped down her hands. She arrived at the door and opened it with a look of shock appearing on her face when she saw Isaac standing at the door.
"Isaac," she gasped, "What are you doing here?"
"I thought that this was what normal people did," he smiled, "They would knock on the front door and not coming through the fence in their back yard, sneaking in."
"Yeah, they would," she nodded, "But what I'm asking is what you're actually doing here? Like here now?"
"I wanted to be normal for a change," he admitted, "And I wanted to come around and see you, the normal way." He raised his head up slightly as he sniffed around, Elena frowned. He lowered his head back down as he brushed his way passed her into the house. Elena spun around quickly and scoffed.
"Isaac," she yelled, "You know, normal people don't just barge passed somebody when they haven't invited them into the house," she followed him into the house, "Normal people would wait until they're invited in, so if you don't mind..." He stood in the kitchen which was surrounded by smoke as he grabbed the pan which contained the steaks and shoved it into the sink with the water blasting down on it. She wafted her hand in front of her face and coughed at the same time. He turned off the water and opened up the window to allow all of the smoke to evacuate through the window slowly. He turned around to her and jogged towards her, placing his hands on her forearms softly as he gazed down at her.
"Are you okay?" He asked her.
"Yeah," she coughed, "Yeah, I'm okay." He led her towards the back door and opened it as he led her outside so that she could catch her breath back. "I guess that I should apologise," she admitted, "I spoke too soon and for a moment I forgot that you had super heightened smell."
"Good thing that I did," he told her, "Because if I didn't, your house would be up in flames and I don't think that your dad would be too pleased with that, now would he?"
"Oh my god," she panicked, "My dad. Oh my god, he's gonna be home soon and when he realises that I haven't made the dinner, that I've burnt it, he won't trust me ever again. I hardly make dinner and the one time that I do it in a while, I mess up. Oh my god, what am I gonna do, Isaac?"
"Elena, relax," he said calmly as he stroked her arms softly with his thumbs, "Okay, how far away is he? When's he gonna be home?"
"He was ten minutes away five minutes ago," she replied still in a panic, "Oh my god, Isaac, how am I gonna prepare something in five minutes, it's impossible."
"It was only the steaks that you burnt, right?" He asked her which she nodded in reply. "Then all you've got to do is run into town and get some more. How about I go and get them?"
"No, it's too late to cook them," she sighed sadly, "And I promised him that I would have them prepared for when he got in. Oh my god, I've messed up big time."
"Elena, look at me," he asked her softly. She slowly looked up at him with glossy eyes. He rose his hand up to her face and stroked her cheek softly with his thumb as he gazed deeply into her eyes. "Just say to him that there was an emergency with one of the horses or something, that one of them was crying before you had to start dinner and made you later than what you expected. I'll run down to the store now, get you two steaks and you can carry on with that excuse, does that sound okay?"
