Chapter 1 - Salt Lake Boarding High School
I grabbed my luggage and stood up when I spotted my Aunt Michelle and her two children. My aunt, my mom's older sister, ran up to me with a large smile and wrapped her arms around me. She nearly lifted me off the ground. I would be living with them for the rest of the school year after all.
I got fed up with the bullies. That one time I was saved from them was also the last time I saw them-hopefully, forever. Mom and Dad had been planning it for a while now, but finally, I could escape the bullies. We didn't have enough money for my brother Christian, Mom, and Dad to live out here in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Aunt Michelle let go of me and then rubbed my arms, her smile unwavering. My cousins, Dakota at eighteen and Lucy at fourteen, came up.
"How's your mom?" asked Aunt Michelle.
"You're not even going to ask her how Kate is?" Dakota muttered.
My aunt shot her older daughter a stony look. "She's here. She's fine. No more rotten bit-I mean brats to deal with, as she will be going to the best boarding school with Lucy!"
"Yeah," I murmured.
"Yeah, as you can see Mom hasn't changed," Dakota told me and put an arm over my shoulders. "Still more of a friend than a mother."
"She only has one aunt, therefore there is only one aunt to be the fun aunt. I will be that very aunt, and Kate will have the best time of her life, Missy," my aunt told Dakota, and the two smiled at one another.
They helped with my bags, and took me home, for now. My Uncle Jack would be in his office working as usual so I probably wouldn't get to tell him 'Hi. It's me, Kate.' or something like that until around dinner time.
"No need to unpack since you will just be going to the school tomorrow," said Aunt Michelle.

It was tomorrow, and I was staring at my room. It had a bunk bed, but as far as I knew, I had no roommate. Lucy's dorm was two floors below mine. She had a roommate, and I wasn't sure whether to be jealous or not. Guess I'd have to find out later.
After looking around my small dorm that came with the bunk bed, a desk, and a dresser, I started to unpack. Next, I studied my schedule and the school map. I wondered if this year would be great, moderate, hard, or fun. I hoped it wouldn't suck like so many of my school years before.
* Picture is of Kate to the right. Sorry this chapter and the prologue are slow. The plot picks up soon, I promise. *
