The sun was blinding my eyes. Where the hell was I? My throat was dry and sore and my head had a pulse of it's own, beating on my poor hungover brain. It took me a few minutes to surge up the strength and energy to move, but when I finally attempted I was pulled back. Something was holding me down. I dragged my hand along the covers and discovered... another hand. One that didn't belong to me. My gaze fell to the hand and thankfully saw it was attached to an arm. An arm that was wrapped around my waist. I jolted quickly (too quickly) waking the person beside me.
"Good morning." I struggled to adjust my eyes but I already knew who it was. Now able to relax I remembered about the headache. Rylan must have noticed the change in my eyes. "The nightstand." I turned my head and found a glass of water and two small white pills. I gulped down the pills and chugged the water until there wasn't one drop left. When I turned back he was getting up. My cheeks flushed when I saw him standing in only his boxers. His bare skin hitting the sunlight, defining his muscular figure. I tried to cover my face with my hair but I don't think it worked. He slid on his jeans before looking back at me and smiling. "Going on a coffee run. You want some?" I could barely manage to nod my head. He laughed.
Grabbing a shirt off the chair he walked out the door, locking it behind him. I was sitting there alone... In his room. He was in his boxers. We slept in the same bed. He had his arm around me. I slowly ran my fingers along the dark blue sheets, straining to remember what happened last night and how I got here. All the thinking caused my head to hurt more so I decided it wasn't worth knowing and got up. When I did I realized I wasn't wearing the same shirt. This one was at least 3 sizes too big. Must be Rylan's. He confirmed my theory when he got back with the two large coffees. "Yeah, you got vomit on your shirt so I gave you mine. April helped you change." He emphasized that last part. He mentioned that he washed my shirt and it was in the dryer, before walking back out of the room. I followed close behind.
"Uh, we didn't...?" My voice quavered.
"God no! Nothing like that!!!"
At least now I know that much.
As soon as I reached the couch I dropped down, already regretting getting up. Rylan brought me my coffee and sat down beside me. His face looked worried... Concerned. He was avoiding eye contact. Wanted to talk about something. About last night. Crap. "Liv?"
"Yeah?" I replied. I didn't want to talk. I wanted to forget. Not that I really remembered much. What would I say? How would I explain this? Suddenly he smiled. His perfect teeth that never needed braces showing.
"I'll make us some eggs." He didn't mention that night, and thinking about it now I wish he had. I could have told him. He would have understood. I found the remote in between the cushions and turned on the TV. Rylan didn't really watch TV and since he didn't live with his parents, he only had the 3 free channels. News, Sports, and French Cable. Luckily he had Netflix so that meant FRIENDS. He turned his head and yelled from the kitchen "You're obsessed!!!"
I responded by loudly singing along to the theme song.
"So no one told you life was gonna be this way!" *clap clap clap clap*
"Oh god."
"I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour!"
"Whyyyy???"
"Cause you're there for me tooooooooooo!!!"
"You're such a loser." He then turned back and finished the eggs. When they were done he brought them over. They smelt delicious. The smell of the spices tickled my nose as I brought up a fork-full of egg to my mouth. I was still so embarrassed about last night. I don't know what had gotten into me. All I knew was it couldn't happen again. When we were both done breakfast I found my phone in my purse. The clock showed 1:45pm and 8 missed calls from my mom.
"Crap! I've got to go!" Rylan grabbed my shirt from the dryer and passed it to me.
"I"ll drive you."
His car smelt like vanilla and cologne. Our houses are close but too far to walk. When I got inside I found Calissa sitting at the table with a bowl of ravioli.
"Where's mom?" She put down the spoon before answering.
"She went out." Obviously noticing the panicked look on my face she quickly added "Rylan called me last night. I let her know you had stayed there when she woke up because it had gotten late." Her gaze passed by me and I followed it back towards the door where Rylan was standing with Bear. "Would you like to stay for some ravioli?"
"It's alright I've already eaten. I'm going to head back." I walked over to him and pulled him into a hug.
"Thank you." I whispered in his ear. Once he left I joined my sister at the table.
We sat for a bit in silence before she finally said "Livia Williams. So cute."
"I thought we killed this conversation yesterday."
"You can't kill love." Oh. My. God.
"Rylan is my friend. My best friend. Nothing More. Do you understand?"
"Sure"
"Whatever." I got up from the chair and was walking away when-
"Hey, Liv?" I turned around.
She held her bowl in my direction.
"Could you get me more ravioli?"
"Screw you."
*******
It was only still late afternoon when mom got home. The windows were open and I could hear the birds outside. Annoying little pests.
"Liv are you ready?" my mom called from upstairs.
"For what?"
"Hockey practice. It starts at 6."
Oh shit.
"Coming!" I grabbed my bag. Need a hair elastic. Where's my stick?
Finally I was ready.
"Calissa will pick you up after. I have a conference and dad will be at the office late."
Again.
Once I got there I saw Emeri and Kyle in front, making out as they usually are. The guys must have a practice in the next arena. When I walked by, staying out of the "kissing zone", I caught a glimps of a glare from Emeri that sent the hairs on the back of my neck standing. I'll never understand girls. She's the basic white girl with her hundred dollar Uggs, red colored hair curled to perfection and Starbucks in her hand. Me, I prefer my converse and 711 coffee. She didn't pay too much attention to me for she needed to resume what was more important.
It was just as cold inside as it was outside except for the changerooms that had one small heater on the side wall. I didn't exactly rush...
Turned out our team was scrimmaging Kyle's, Which meant yes, Emeri came too. She is the worlds most annoying cheerleader.
"Wooooo! Go Kyle!" and whenever she felt it was necessary, "That's my boyfriend!"
In the end they beat us 4-3. After the game Kyle ran into me. "Good game Liv."
"You too, would have won if we actually tried though."
"Ha, sore loser as always."
"Fine. Next time it's too the death."
"Sounds good. Better start planning your funeral."
Suddenly Emeri jumped out of nowhere, blocking me from her boyfriend, and kissed him. Ew.
"Good playing baby. I knew you would win." Up close you can clearly see the jealous in her eyes. Red ALERT signs anytime Kyle got within hearing range of another girl. She was completely insane but I wasn't going to get in her way. "Come on. Let's go get pizza." She grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the arena, leaving me alone in the empty space.
"Uh, bye?"
