Prologue

"Move your fat ass!I don't put food in your mouth for you to do me like that." She screamed in my ears.

Tears started flowing out of my eyes.

"Mom I'm really sorry-" She cut me off.

"Don't fucking tell me you're sorry. Clean up this damn house 'for I kick you out of my bludclart house"

I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the broom and started sweeping.

When I was done I began mopping, scrubbing, washing dishes, polishing counters and cleaning every window in the house.

You would think that I did something really bad to upset my mother like that, right? Wrong.

My dad died 2 months ago and since then my mom has been like this. Ordering me to cook, clean and every chore she can think of.

I understand that she is mourning my dad but so am I. She beats me.

Hard.

If I don't listen to what she says.

It never used to be like this. I used to love her so much. Now I don't even think I love her at all.

As I walked up the stairs I heard someone crying.

I ran back down the stairs and wrapped my arms around my sister.

"Tia, What's wrong?"

She was crying so loud.

"Mommy... Is so mean to you. Why?" She said in between sniffles. She's only 5.

"Don't worry about mommy forget Bout her." I said, rocking her side to side.

"Summer. Get out of this house. Go to school and take your stupid sister with you. Ugly cunts."

She said while walking down the stairs.

School? What the fuck? I know she ain't telling me to go to school at 10 o'clock at night.

Dissing me is one thing. But calling a 5 year old stupid and a cunt is another thing.

This woman is mad.

She must be sniffing, smoking, or both.

Tia just stood looking at her mom with water in her eyes.

I stood up and faced my mom.

I took a deep breath.

"Don't you ever FUCKING say that about T."

Mom looked surprised.

"Your not her mother. I am. Matter of fact I'm not. Get the fuck out of my house! I'm done with you kids. I try my hardest to do good and what do I get? You ruined my life. Both of you."

I looked her in the eyes for a long time then ran upstairs with Tia still holding my hand.

I entered our room and stuffed clothes, underwear, shoes , toiletries into a bag. Tia watched. Looking scared.

"Don't worry babe. T. Put on your coat it's cold outside."

As she went to get her coat she said."I don't wanna go."

I stopped what I was doing and looked at my sister.

She was only 5 and I knew this wasn't right but we had to go before my momma does some crazy shit or hits her.

"It's for the better ,baby don't worry. Things will get better." I said while looking her in her eyes and painting my face with a smile.

I tried to convince her that things would get better but I'm not sure if its her or me who needs the convincing.

I try and think positively.

Everybody needs a happy ending, right?
