I played with the little stud in my lip, the clock ticking down the seconds. Brayden scored and I whistled, the buzzer going off seconds later.
Philly took it 3-1 and I kicked my feet up against the boards, my phone in my hands. I tucked a headphone in, Cupids Chokehold by Gym Class Heros flowing through them.
I watched the zamboni circle the rink, the hoards of people leaving. I tilted my head back and took a deep breath, standing up to get the hell out.
"Tash!" I heard my name and turned.
"Hey." I waved.
"Tunnel?" Brayden asked.
I nodded, weaving my way around the arena finding my way and ducking in using my flashlight on my phone to see.
"Boo!" Brayden said from behind me.
Without thinking I pressed him to the wall, a handful of his shirt curled in my hand as I gripped it.
"Sorry." I said quickly, letting him go and stepping back.
"Stronger than you look, come on."
He lead the way, knocking on the door and warning the guys before yanking me into the room.
"No, Brayden let go!" I laughed, throwing a hand over my eyes.
"Awe Brayden who is she? A little out of your league don't you think? Nevermind she's wearing Luke's jersey." Someone said.
I looked down on the shirt and my arms flew up to cover the numbers on the sleeve, my face flaming red.
"Bonjour." I said, quizzical glanced thrown my way. "Hey."
"Hello gorgeous what's your name?" Adam Hall asked.
"Natasha, and you are?"
"Adam."
"Gotcha." I replied, my phone vibrating in my pocket.
It read 'Jake' and I ignored it, trying my best not to throw it across the room, instead putting it on the nearest table.
"Whoa, smile you look sad." Like said.
"No biggie, I'm just starving. I forgot to eat, and I hate stadium food." I said quickly, recovering.
"Can't let you starve, you're small enough already." Adam said poking my stomach.
"I'm not that small." I laughed.
"Prove it." He challenged.
I lifted my shirt, all eyes gaping the mediocre six pack barely showing. I let my shirt drop.
"You're ripped." Brayden said.
"It's pathetic." I said.
"What's up with all the noise?" Tye Mcginn said, walking in from the showers.
"Oh god I'm out." I said, walking towards the door.
"Way to go Tye you scared her!" Brayden laughed.
"Tash, your phone." Luke said.
"Oh, thanks." I smirked, reaching for it.
It disappeared as my hand closed and I looked up into taunting blue eyes.
"Hilarious." I said.
"Come to dinner." He said.
"Isn't that kind of a team thing?" I asked.
"Honorary." He said, slipping my phone in his pocket.
"And there goes my phone." I mumbled.
--
I got towed into the restaurant completely against my will, sandwiched in between both Schenn's making me feel extremely small. I played with my straw, the ice cubes flying around the liquid.
"So Tash, what made you want to play?" Adam asked.
"Umm, Canadian eh?" I laughed. "No um, I also play baseball. Hockey was entertainment during the winter, got good at it, learned to fight, started to lift, got serious and moved."
"I see, why'd you move?"
"I did some stupid things, got in with the bad crowd, got fucked up. My own parents hated me, I couldn't stand the rumours. I needed an escape." I stated quietly.
"Wanna talk?" He asked, genuinely concerned.
"No, cause if you like me now you'll hate me later. Clean slate." The three guys around me nodded, shoving a menu at me.
--
I shoved back my plate, my stomach full. Instead I went back to playing with my straw, simple conversations flowing around me.
"Sup with the jersey?" Brayden asked.
"Don't worry, yours is in a box in my room too." I laughed.
"Good." He winked, sliding from the booth.
--
"Night, thanks." I laughed, slipping from the car.
"Tash, phone." Luke said, slipping my phone from his pocket.
"Can't forget that." I said, taking and then closing the door with my hip.
I slipped in the door, then climbed the stairs. The little house eerily quiet. I plugged my phone into my iDock and let the music flood my room before getting ready for bed.
I flipped on the TV and curled under the covers, my phone buzzing. Unknown Name on the screen lighting up the room.
Unknown Name
-it's Luke, sleep tight
Me
-night you too (:
My heart pounded and I replaced my phone, closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep.
