A frozen hand brushed my cheek as my feet scuffled across the cold stone floor.
"Huh?"
My heart lurched with fear as I spun around, but no one was there. I couldn't see. I couldn't breathe. And I was dressed in a hospital gown drenched with blood.
But the blood wasn't mine.
As black teas streamed down my cheeks i sat down on the cold, wet ground and cried. Thats when I felt another frozen hand brush my cheek.
"Stop!"
I spun around in fear. Once again no one was there.
"Where am I? Can somebody tell me where I am-"
"Shhhhh..."
That's when my eyes adjusted to the dark to make out a dark figure standing in front of me with a scraggly finger pressed to my mouth. I froze.
"Who are you?"
My voice was shaky and echoed off the stone walls.
"Some call me fear, death, the grim reaper."
He passed around the room in a deal gown that was torn at the edges. His hands were crooked and bony and his face wasn't human. His hand clasped around a staff attached to a massive blade so large it was taller than me. He must have been at least ten feet tall, and he hovered above the ground, his booming voice scaring the $%&# out if me everytime he spoke, his pitch black eyes staring at me through the dark.
"I- I'm not afraid."
"Haha!"
His laugh made me scuttle back until my back was pressed against the wall.
"Are you scared now?"
He slashed his blade down until in just grazed the tip of my nose, leaving a nick about the size of a papercut. My lower lip quivered in fear but I managed to muster the words,
"No, I'm not scared."
His smile was very amused, and he reached one crooked hand down and scooped me up. His touch was so cold it chilled to the bone and I shivered uncontrollably.
"What's your name?"
I opened my mouth to speak but I soon realized I didn't remember my name. He watched me amused as I struggled to remember and I shook my head in defeat.
"Your name is Noa, and you are"
He leaned in so he could whisper right into my ear,
"Dead."
I took a shaky breath and placed my hand on my heart, finding no heart beat. I found myself taking a sharp breath in. I wasn't scared, I was angry.
"I. Am not. Afraid!"
My voice was strong and seemed to take him by surprise as his amused smile turned to shock. He placed me on the ground and pointed to a door on the far side of the room.
"You're a strong kid, Noa. The world needs people like you."
I wiped black teas from my cheeks and furrowed my eyebrows.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm going to let you go."
And with that, his cold hands shoved me out the door, and everything went black.
