"Emma."
The sound of my name coming out of his mouth sent shivers up my spin. I smiled before even opening my eyes, turning to lay on my back. As I slowly we opened my eyes, to see him sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Get up and get dressed, we got to get back before they start worrying too much." He said as he slipped on his cowboy boots.
I nodded yawning.
He left me to get dress and I started folding up all the blankets that had been spread out all over the bed. Once I had made the pile in the corner of the room and put the fire out I walked out to the main room where Cody was putting out the main fire.
"I put out the fire in that room." I said rubbing my eyes.
Before I could do anything else he snaked his arm around my waist and kissed my lips softly. The grumble of my stomach caused him to pull away.
"I don't think there is much in here to eat." He frowned.
"It's okay we left the basket in the truck. There's still some food left in there, I can wait."
"Alright then let's get going." He said grabbing my hand and walking out the door.
We stopped to but the lock back on the door and it gave me a chance to look at the forest we where in. It was absolutely beautiful really. The ground was muddy from all the rain last night. Some branches had fallen off into the path, but we easily climbed over them.
"Do you think we will be able to get the truck unstuck?" I asked.
"Depends really." He shrugged lifting me up over a tree branch.
The truck came into view and I rushed over to it, opening the basket and devouring an apple. Cody laughed at me as he reached over and grabbed a granola bar. I happily started eating more of the treats, while Cody figured out how to get the truck out of the mud mess.
"Em, can you give it some gas?" He called from outside.
I nodded even though I knew he couldn't hear me. I pushed in the clutch and turned on the truck, the metal cold from sitting out all night. I pressed softly on the gas and heard mud splatter all around. Followed by a string of curse words. I jumped out avoiding the big mud puddle the truck was in. Looking at Cody who was covered head to toe in mud.
He shook his head at the truck and ran a muddy hand through his hair. I walked over to him flicking the mud off of his hair.
"We may have to come up with plan B." He sighed.
"Don't be silly we can get this truck out. Hand me a shovel." I said.
He looked at me, and I couldn't read his expression. But it made me smile as he handed me a shovel.
I got to work clearing away the mud that had gathered at the tires. He got one and started to clear most of the mud away. At least enough to get the truck out.
"Alright, go give it some gas and I'll push." He said wiping his hands together.
I nodded, putting. The shovel back in the bed and turning the truck on, given it some gas it launched forward which surprised me. It was a stick shift I had no clue what pedals to push. I let out a scream as the truck started down the hill we came up on. Watching Cody wave his hands frantically in the air. Through the mirror. He was shouting things but I couldn't hear over the sound of my own screaming.
The truck gained speed as it descended the hill and it was heading straight for a pile of rocks. Screaming more at the top of my lungs I gripped the steering wheel and yanked it away from the rocks I pressed pedals not knowing what they all do. Pressing the farthest right I knew that was the gas, the other two have to stop it so instead of pressing one and finding out I pressed them both in. I flew forward as the truck jerked to a stop. My head hit the windshield, my screaming stopped once the truck stopped and I kind of just sat there. The truck stopped right in time before it was going to go down another section of hill.
