Warhammer 40k: The Vakerian Guard

The rain poured and poured on the camp in the forest on Jogpunda prime the occupants of some of the tents reluctantly leaving to fix holes or put tent pegs back into the muddy ground.

"We will have to bombard the city before we go in. In a urban environment the Tau will be no match for our swords." said Legate Cantz

He pointed on the map to where their artillery emplacements were marked.

"May i remind you we don't have unlimited ammo and a lot of those buildings might with stand even earth shaker rounds" Said Shot master Marrimek

Commisar Fadro Zas finally made his decision but added.

"The bombardment must only target the inner city the open ground before we can enter is uncovered except from the odd carcass of a vehicle we will rush through that patch of ground, but it has to be quick or we will lose a lot of men. We can't use our small arsenal of armour in the city so it will cover the rush" The two commander's nodded.

It was still raining during the day as the Vakerian got to the edge of the forest before the kilometer stretch. A manticore had fired a few missiles to make some craters for cover after six-hundred meters.

The artillery guns kept up the fire on the city.

The whistle blew and all the guardsmen ran out of the forest at the city.

Private Fergo panted as a blue round struck the man to his right from a yellow in colour bunker with cube like guns poking out. Fergo jumped behind a fallen battlesuit which has a large hole from a las cannon in the centre he breathed and turned the safety off his las gun and leaned off around the foot of the suit and fired at a Tau running to a limping comrade who was using his rifle as a crutch, the Tau fell in a heap Fergo then turned his gun on the wounded tau who also fell to his rifle.

"You private get up you've got your kills get up and continue running." Shouted a sergeant who then fired a burst from his auto-gun.

Fergo got up vaulted over the leg and ran zig zagging to a smouldering bunker which had been flamed out by a Trooper armed with a flamer who was lying dead a few meters away. He walked in through the door and saw the burnt bodies of the last occupants he swallowed the rising liquid in his throat and poked his las gun through the slit and fired at a Tau Fire warrior leader who was pointing to a pinned down Vakerian squad the leader turned to the bunker and waved at Fergo thinking he was a fellow Tau, he regretted that as a red laser bolt hit him in the face the other members of the squad looked around frantically. Fergo thought that they must be recruited recently and killed them in a few well placed shots he then heard a clank from behind and turned to see a Fire warrior who had his left arm burnt to a black limb. Fergo fired and his las gun buzzed and the magazine popped out the Tau knowing he was here picked up a small blade on his hip. Fergo dropped his las gun which was stopped from dropping on the floor by his sling not bothering to grab his bayonet or his power sabre he rose his fists.

"Human you will die your emperor cant save you." said the tau

"Xeno drop your butter knife and I'll kill you quick" said Fergo his gravely voice making the Tau jump.

The Tau jumped at Fergo who grabbed his knife hand twisted it, turned him around kicked him in the legs then grabbed his burnt arm then putting a leg on its body and pulled his arm off. The Tau screamed the shock dropping the blade he felt around for a weapon feeling a pistol he gripped it then tried to turn around. Fergo saw the Tau pick up the pistol he grapped its neck then kicked him in the back breaking his back he spazzed and feel to the ground. Fergo sat down breathing heavily then looked out a gap in the bunker to see his comrades get passed the bunker line and get in bloody close combat swords gleaming. Fergo reloaded and picked up the Tau blade and put it in his 'loot' pouch on his leg.

Leaving the bunker he ran to the nearest tau sword in hand.

"Commisar first company has breached the bunker line" said some Questor over the Vox the Commisar's adjacent replied.

"Right send the other three companies in. Vox the first company commander to get losses then make the decision to continue in the city" Commisar Fadro Zas said leaving the command chimera grabbing his coat, hat and belt which had his bolt pistol and chain sword on.

Fadro Zas couldn't believe it was still raining but the streams of water from the top of the hill to the open ground had blood running in it. His adjacent followed him and another guardsmen carried the 6th Regiment's banner.
