Autumn's POV

______________________________

After we paid the angry sweet store owner for the damage we inflicted on his shop, we were banned.

"£45 worth of jelly beans!" I cried, "dad!"

Dad looked over at me from his position on a comfy chair, eating the sweets that we had to pay for.

"Yes?"

"Aren't you even a little bit annoyed that we spent £45 on sweets?"

"No. Not really. I mean, come on, Autumn, we got £45 of jelly beans. That's pretty good. And only half of them touched the floor," he popped another green jelly bean into his mouth.

I groaned and pulled my jumper around me. "Just try and get some sleep, no more jelly beans," I closed my eyes and tried to sleep.

- 6 hours later-

"Autumn? Wake up we need to catch the plane to Australia!"

I opened my eyes. Dad was standing over me, tongue blue from jelly beans.

I stood up and stretched. Grabbed the bags and followed dad to the gate that we were departing from.

"All people travelling to Australia please present your ticket and board the plane," an Asian stewardess told us, bowing slightly before moving onto the next group of bleary-eyed passengers.

I showed the captains our tickets and we found our seats.

"I get the window seat!" Dad immediately declared, jumping up and pushing past me to the window seat.

I sighed and plonked into the seat beside him.

The flight took off, and dad changed the channels on the TV in front of him.

-8 hours later-

"We will be touching down in Sydney International Flights Airport in 10 minutes. Please ensure seat belts are fastened tightly and tables are firmly tacked up. Thank you and we hope you enjoyed your flight," the air hostess's voice echoed over the intercom.

I sat up and stretched. I can't believe in a few short minutes we will be touching down in the country I have been daydreaming and thinking about for months.

Dad's jaw was slack, and his eyes closed. He was snoring softly. I gently leaned over and whispered in his ear... "Rachael is pregnant," and his eyes flicked open and he gasped.

"Rachael? My dear Rachael Green from Friends? Who did this to her?"

I smiled. Works every time.

"No one, dad. But look! Can you see Australia yet? We are landing in 10 minutes!"

Dad grinned excitedly like a hyper active little kid.

"We will be landing in bay 17 gate 49 of Sydney's International Flights Airport. Boarders are to stay to the left of the gate and Passers are to stay to right of the gate. When we land please ensure all of your belongs are safely in your possession. Thank you and we hope you enjoyed your flight," the intercom beeped.

I gathered up the rubbish we made from our trip and put it in a passing bin. The hostess smiled at me, "welcome to Australia. My name is Suzanne and I hope you enjoyed your flight." She tucked a small bag in the front compartment of my seat and nodded lightly before moving on.

I leaned forward eagerly and plucked what Suzanne had put in the pocket out. It was a pencil case sized envelope with a brochure, small tube of suncream, a pair of headphones and a map inside it. I gratefully took the suncream out and squirted some on my hand.

"Dad, come here," dad turned to face me and I passed him the suncream bottle. He started applying suncream like me.

The plane jolted forward and dad squeezed the suncream tightly in shock. Suncream exploded all over me.

My face was white with suncream. It looked like I was wearing a white facial.

"Haha Autumn, a seagull pooped on you," dad laughed, "remember that time when we were walking on the pier and that seagull pooped on you?"

I groaned. Now is so not the time for him to bring back that memory.

I rubbed the 'facial' in so that I just looked pale, not like a fully fledged ghost.

"Dad?" I asked in all seriousness.

"Yes, Autumn?" Dad looked at me.

"Can you please act like the older member of this family for once? While we are here, in Australia?"

Dad smiled sadly at me. "You're right, Autumn. It's time for me to grow up. I'll look after you now, OK? I'll try and be a good dad to you."

"Thanks dad," I wrapped my arms around him in a hug.

Dad grabbed out bags and then we exited the plane.

We went to the Incomers lounge and collected our bags from the carousel.

A lady was waving at us as we approached the gates. She had long black hair tied in a loose pony tail and was wearing a blue dress. She held a sign up that read 'MCKENNA FAMILY'.

"That's Katherine, she's our house manager. She's keeps the house running smoothly," dad explained as we made our way over to Katherine.

She smiled and waved. "Hello Timothy, it's a pleasure to meet you at last," she shook dad's hand politely.

"And you must be Autumn! I've heard so much about you! We will great friends!" Katherine hugged me.

I was startled by how open Katherine was.

"I'm Katherine, by the way," she held out her hand so I could shake it.

Katherine must have only been about 25. I'm pretty tall for my age, and we were almost the same size.

Katherine took a bag and led us over to the car. It was very big and posh, with leather seats. I slid into the back nervously while Katherine started the engine. Dad sat in the passenger seat telling Katherine about us.

I looked out the window and leant my forehead against the cool glass. It's much hotter in Australia than I thought it would be. I wonder how Tom is surviving without me? I feel bad for leaving him with no way to protect himself from Katie and Yvonne.

I looked up at dad and Katherine. She was smiling and looking over at dad occasionally as he spoke. He was telling her about my favourite breakfast.

"Autumn loves pancakes, especially if they have melted chocolate on them," he explained happily. I smiled to myself and closed my eyes, listening to the noise around me and chug-a-chug of the engine.
