Lucas' POV
Maya's kissing me. She's kissing me. Why is she kissing me? Eh, I don't care, I wanna enjoy this. But she pulls away too fast. Was I bad kisser or something? Did my breath smell? She looks at me. "Lucas?"
I just stare at her, dumbfounded. I try to talk, but nothing comes out of my mouth. She removes her arms from around my neck and looks at her shoes. Now my neck is cold. "Umm, I think we should get going." She turns around and starts walking away. I hear her muttering to herself. I just stand there, trying to process what happened. What did happen? "Lucas!" I shake out of my thoughts and run towards the exit.
A waiter stops me as I'm about to exit the hotel, "Would you like another Lotus flower, sir?"
"Of course!" I reach for some and pick two up. I thank him and turn around to head back to the arcade. I'm about to eat one, when I hear a smack and it flies out of my hand. "Hey! What'd the food ever do to you?" I pout. "Now I have to find another waiter."
"No you don't. Come on,"Maya takes my hand and starts dragging me out of the hotel. When she wasn't looking, I ate the other one I took. Wait, why was she dragging me away from this place? This was my paradise! I need a break from being a demigod. It's so much work.
"Quit dragging me away! I need to beat my game!" I try to break from her grip, but she's surprisingly strong. I don't want to leave! This is injustice! "Let me go!"
"What's gotten into— oh no."
I don't know what the oh no was about, but I don't care; she can't just drag me away from heaven! I decide to just plop onto the ground so she can't take me away from my dream place. She wasn't expecting me to do that, and ends up stumbling, losing her grip on my arm.
"What the hell, Lucas! We don't have time for this! Quit acting like such a kid." I take my chance and make a break for it. I dart up and start running back. I hear her groan and run after me. I hear her footsteps closing in on me, so I start making sharp turns. Out of nowhere, I get blinded with a really bright light: like the sun just decided to bend the sunlight into my eyes. I cover my eyes, to try and limit my blindness. Suddenly, I feel a lot of weight on my back. I fall to my knees, but catch myself so we don't fall.
"Nathan! Farkle! Quit eating those hot dogs and help me!" They drop their hot dogs when they see us and come rushing over to us. "Help me pin him down. "I try to stand up, but they join in on the dog pile. "We need to snap him out of this. I think he ate another flower."
"Well do whatever you did the first time," Farkle suggests.
"No!" Nathan shouts. "I mean, I have another way." He gets off of me and kneels in front of me. There's a loud noise and my cheek starts to burn.
"Ow!" I complain. "What was that for?"
"You feel okay?" Maya asks.
"No! I just got slapped!"
"I did it to snap you out of it. You're welcome," Nathan says.
"What was wrong with Farkle's suggestion?"
"Guys, we need to continue our quest," Maya says. "We don't have a lot of time left."
"Oh my gods! The quest!" I completely forgot.
"See? He remembers. It was effective." I glare at Nathan._____________________________
We go to a hot dog stand to get some non-cursed food. "So what took you guys so long in there?" Nathan asks, taking a bite of his new hot dog.
"Oh I think I can figure out why," Farkle smirks, looking between me and Maya. "It was bec–"
I shove Farkle's hot dog in his mouth. "So do you guys have our bags?" I ask, eager to change the subject.
"Ya." They hand us our bags and we take them.
"What day is it?" We go to a newspaper stand and we see it's the 14th.
"What! It was just the 13th a few minutes ago," Maya says confusedly. She grabs a newspaper and checks for herself. "You guys took forever to convince," she blames.
"Hey! You two are the ones that took forever," Farkle points out.
"He's the one who ate that stupid food." I regret nothing, that food was good.
"Well, we have less than a week now to save Apollo, how do we get to Saint Helens now?"
"Should we try to take another bus?" Nathan asks. Maya looks at Farkle, who looks kinda ticked off that he asked that question.
"I think we need a different way," Farkle says through gritted teeth.
Nathan nods and puts his hand to his mouth. He whistles and a taxi comes to halt in front of us. "How about a taxi?" Why didn't he do that to start with? We all pile in and Nathan sits in front.
"Alright, where to?"
"Washington. We need to get to Mount Saint Helens," Maya answers.
The driver whistles, "That's over a thousand miles, you guys got the money to pay for it?"
"Do you accept casino debit cards?" I ask.
He shrugs. "Some of 'em. Same as a credit card, I gotta swipe 'em through first."
I hand him my card and he swipes it. The meter machine starts rattling. The lights flash and an infinity symbol appears next to the dollar sign. He ends up doing a spit take when he sees that. He looks back at me, his eyes like saucers. "Saint Helens you said?" We nod. "Get comfortable, it's going to be a long ride."_____________________________
18 hours later, we're finally there. I tell the driver that he can keep the card and boy was he happy. He thanked me and called me "Your Highness." He was pretty friendly. He drops us off in front of the mountain. "Is this what it looked like," Nathan asks Maya. She nods, "Ya, this is it." We start walking to the ruins, trying to find an entrance. She walks ahead. She hasn't looked at me since she kissed me in the hotel and I can't figure out why. We continue climbing up, and I have to talk to someone about this.
"Hey Farkle?"
"What's up?"
"Why won't Maya look at me?"
"What do you mean?"
"She's acting like I'm invisible. Ever since what happened in the hotel, she can't even look at me."
"Well, this is new for her."
"What is?"
"Guys! We found something!" Nathan yells. I see him help Maya up, and I can't help but feel a little jealous. I should be the one helping her. Instead, I have to help Farkle up. We reach a cave and walk over to Nathan.
"What is it?"
"I'm not sure. I think it's back here." We start following him, but then I'm not sure anymore. It's too dark to see anything.
"Guys? Where are you?" Nathan yells. I put my arms out in front of me so I don't run into the walls. I feel my hand grab something, and next thing I know, the wind gets knocked out of me as my feet go out from under me. I groan, knowing what, sorry, who I ran into. "It was only me, Maya."
"Sorry! It's just, something doesn't feel right. Besides, if you weren't such a Huckleberry, maybe that wouldn't have happened."
"Yeah yeah, just help me up." She helps me up and wraps my arm around her shoulders to help with my balance. I smile, even though she can't see me, at least knowing she still cares about me. "We're over here," she answers. We call for Farkle, trying to find him.
"Guys? You're gonna want to see what I found," Farkle yells.
"What?"
We hear a gasp. "Guys! We ne–" We hear a thud. "Nathan? Farkle? Are you guys ok?" I call out. I hear another thud and Maya becomes limp. "Maya? Maya!" I catch her right before she falls. Then pain shoots through my head and my vision goes black.
