To Fear, or Not To Fear

From a very young age, I have wished to see Gotham's scandalous streets ruled by something other than villains. For as long as I can remember, my mother has been terrified every time I go out of the house and onto the streets because of the possibilities that I would get killed for simply walking in somebody else's path.

Well, that's Gotham for you. Dangerous, dreadful, and deadly.

Perhaps she is most scared because that was how her best friend was killed. Simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time walking in front of the wrong person with a gun. Her bad luck made my life miserable as well as anybody else who wished to have a life in the hard city of Gotham. It just didn't happen all that often, and when it did, people got hurt. Take the Wayne's for instance. Their good fortune got them shot in an alleyway at night in front of their son's eyes. Talk about wrong place at the wrong time.

So excuse me if I just want to see some good in my town.

Everyone is too afraid to stand up for themselves here. If anyone would just try and stop the banks from getting robbed all the time, there might actually begin to be real money in them. Not just a bunch of empty vaults that workers there say are totally full and dripping with cash, you just can't take more than $100 out of your bank account at one time. Insurance reasons. Sure. Like anyone is going to believe that. But they do, and the people of Gotham have become so accustomed to these lies that they just become another part of daily life here.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the random killings around here. Apparently it's some unwritten rule that in order to become anyone in this city, you have to kill people. A lot of people. Even cops aren't scary unless they are actually willing to pull the trigger, and then people actually start to be a little scared of them. Even that James Gordon guy. Word on the street is, he's killed more people than even the infamous Oswald Cobblepot. That makes him a big threat to everyone on the streets and a huge threat to Cobblepot. Now, Oswald, or as I hear people say, The Penguin, has started killing people left and right trying to even the score and maybe, just maybe, regain his title as one of the most feared people in Gotham. But that title isn't coming anytime soon.

But enough about that guy and his deluded visions of what Gotham should really look like. He has it all wrong. Gotham shouldn't be a place to be feared, it should be a place to be celebrated. Like Metropolis and that Superman guy who flies around everywhere getting the villains off the streets. We need a hero in these streets who is willing to actually put forth the effort and stand up to people. Stand up to the corrupt police. Stand up to the damn villains. Just someone who is willing to save us.

And I am willing to be that person.
