(The picture above is from Wattpad: Covers app. I do not own it nor am I the woman in the picture. It is basically how I see my OC, who is the main character here, and know that she's supposed to be thirteen years old, so hopefully you see her as thirteen in the picture above)
Rayla Lockhart. That's my name. I'm a freak. I'm stupid. I'm a no one. I don't deserve to live. Neither do my parents, for having such a stupid child that is a freak. I glow in the dark and I can create light that can sometimes blind people, a light that changes its color to represent my mood.
That's what I've been telling myself each day, ever since I figured out about my ability. Each day is the same. I wake up, eat breakfast, go back to my room, read books or do other things, eat lunch, do some chores, tell myself I'm useless, eat dinner, then sleep.

I sat in the field where my parents left me. They told me they were going to come back in a few minutes. But hours had passed and they still hadn't returned.
I knew why. They were afraid of their own child. Their freak daughter.
I started to cry, then I noticed the sun setting. But I didn't mind. My body would glow if it wanted. I didn't care.
I kept on crying, until a hand was on my shoulders.
"Hello, dear. Are you okay?" it was a lady wearing this dress that made me feel uncomfortable.
"Not....really." I replied.
"I thought so." the lady said. Then she noticed me glowing. "And I knew there was something in you, too."
"What?" I said.
"Where are your parents?"
"They abandoned me," I said.
"Why?"
"I think they think I'm a freak. For being able to create light like this." I said, and demonstrated it for her.
"That's amazing, dear. What is your name?"
"Rayla Lockhart."
She extended her hand. "I'm Miss Peregrine," she said.
"A bird?" I blurted out, as we shook hands.
"Yes, well, I can transform into a peregrine falcon," she said.
"You can?" I said.
She nodded. "Our species are called syndrigast. Syndrigasts are peculiars. Each of us has our own ability, such as you, being able to create light barehanded, and me, able to transform into a bird. You must come with me, Rayla. If one of the wights wandering around realize you're a peculiar, they'll feed you to a hollowgast."
I burst into laughter. "Syndrigast? Peculiars? Hollowgast? Wight? What an imagination!" I said, although to be honest I think it was quite rude.
"They don't sound real, but they are real," Miss Peregrine said. "Do you want a home? A shelter?"
"I'd love one, but-"
"Then let's go September 3rd, 1940."
"But that's three years from now-"
