I breathe out a sigh of relief, my god. Going back and forth like this is tiring me out. Even though I've been laying in a hospital bed. My eyelids feel like a million pounds as I pry them open, I make sure I'm still in the hospital before I sit up, which is achingly painful considering what my body has been through.
The nurse checks my IV and makes small talk with me for a while, telling me about her family and then letting me talk about mine - you know, the usual banter.
"By the way, Mr. Kaiba has been coming in a lot lately. Seeing if you're awake and such." the nurse starts.
"Really?" I cock my head to the side like a curious puppy, "Yeah- speak of the devil." the nurse looks at the door, causing me to turn. When I do, my eyes meet a tall silhouette who's opening the door.
"I'll get out of your hair." the nurse attaches the new IV drip before quickly exiting, practically slamming the door behind her.
"Well, that was eventful." I giggle but Kaiba doesn't give me the same enthusiasm. "Um- wh-what are you doing here?" I sink into the baby blue blankets provided for me.
"I come... bearing news." Kaiba approaches the bed and pulls over one of the chairs in the room, sitting down and placing his elbows on his knees. He's almost too tall for the chair, seeing how his knees reach his torso.
"Well? What is it?" I ask, propping myself upright and folding my arms securely over my chest. "So, the new simulator had some interesting effects. There was a technician who had minor injuries from the blast. He complained about having night terrors and extremely vivid dreams." Kaiba explains, he then turns his head to me, my eyes finally meeting his.
"I was wondering- are you having those same side effects?" Kaiba folds his hands in his lap, waiting patiently yet stoically for a response. "Uh, yeah... My dreams as of late are very- real." Is all I can manage to say about the strange phenomenon that is my dreams.
Kaiba sighs, disappointment evident. "Just remember something for me?" He looks at me dead on and my eyes widen a bit at how direct his next statement is, "Right now? You're in the real world. Don't forget that." Kaiba suddenly grabs both of my hands. "Everyone who was in that blast is already back on their feet. I worry for you, though." if my eyes weren't wide enough before, they definitely are now.
Holy crap, Kaiba's being super genuine about this! It almost frightens me at how much his demeanor just changed. Kaiba then recoils quickly, breaking the moment we shared. "Well... I'll come back when you're being discharged. Apparently you can go pretty soon-"
"How the hell do you know that?" I ask, knowing that all of that information is private. "Money is power, I'll have you know." Kaiba motions to stand up and push the chair back in its previous spot.
"Well, could you not? That's really none of your business-"
"I'm paying for your medical expenses, am I not?" Kaiba raises a challenging brow.
"You asshole! Don't use your charity work against me. Are you serious!?" I feel my face growing hot with anger.
"Alright, I get it!" Kaiba holds his hands up in surrender, "I... won't pry anymore." Kaiba scoffs as he utters the words.
"God, you're just an oaf with crappy fashion sense aren't you?" I look him up and down, the white trench coat thing is starting to get old.
"Wow, I'm offended." Kaiba retorts, dripping with sarcasm. I chuckle a bit and Kaiba grins at me from over his shoulder before exiting the hospital room.
