"What do you think she'll look like, Dipper? Do you think she likes sweaters? Maybe I should make her a sweater. What color should it be???" Dipper Pines put a hand to his head, annoyed at his sister's incessant babble.

"I have no clue, Mabel. But if I were you on wouldn't hurry to make her one, because Grunkle Stan is going to be home with her any minute." Mabel was bouncing up and down with excitement. They'd never had a guest during their visits, but when their Grunkle was asked to take care of an old friends' daughter, he was quick to accept the offer. He'd said that it was an unpaid favor from prison in Guatemala, or something. Nobody pried further.

"I guess you're right. But DO you think she likes sweaters?" She repeated, poking his cheek on the emphasised 'do'.

"No." He replied, swatting her hand away. Her face looked mortified.

"WHAT?!?!?!" She screamed. He covered his ears in annoyance. She spent a long pause staring off into space, seemingly contemplating life, then spoke up. "I think YOU'RE the one who's just upset about a girl visiting, Dipper." She poked him again, and he began to lightly blush.

"N-no..." He said, burying his face in a textbook on physics. Though he was sixteen, he managed to skip a grade, and was entering senior year after summer ended.

"Of COURSE you are, Dipper, are you kidding me? You're just being a grumpy pants because you don't wanna mess up with a girl who you can actually date." His blush deepened, and he buried his face further into the book.

"Alright, then, you got me, okay? I really don't want to screw this up." He confessed shyly, casting his eyes downward. None of the girls in school would ever give him the time of day, and even if Wendy would date him, she left for college at the beginning of the summer. He had absolutely no chance to have a girlfriend throughout his whole teenage career, and he was keen on changing that fact. If Mabel could keep her mouth shut.

A car door shut outside of the house, and Mabel shot off of the arm chair in the living room. Grabbing her brother's pale arms, she began to shoot out of the house.

"Come on, lover boy! Let's go meet your DESTINY!"

***Reader's POV***

The bus ride to Gravity Falls was sweaty, long, and extremely uncomfortable. And the car ride to my temporary residence was just plain painful, because the driver has absolutely no clue on how to talk to teenagers. My father makes interesting friends.

"So, uh, kid. Y/ n, right? Yeah, that's it. I think. So, um, welcome to Gravity Falls. Was the bus ride good?

"Not exactly..." I say, my voice trailing away as I look out the window. I'm not used to so much nature.

"Well that's great. Wait. You said it sucked, didn't you? Then I guess I give you my condolences."

I attempted to engage in as little conversation as possible during the ride to his home, which proved to be quite easy. I think he hates small talk just as much as I hate awkward small talk.

As the car rolls on the road, I stare through the glass at the towering pine trees with awe. I don't think I've ever seen a tree quite that tall. The trees make me remember what my father told me when I left at the bus stop.

"Now you may see some odd things in this town, but don't pay them any attention. If you don't hurt them, they won't hurt you." He'd said, giving me a kiss on the head. I didn't pay much thought to it, since his mind was already pretty boggled. I was leaving my home for the summer so he and mom could work out some marital problems, which put the both of them on weird-acting mode around me. I told them to just divorce already, but they refused to yield to my advice.

After about twenty minutes of terrible driving, we reach a triangular building with giant lettering on the roof.

Mystery... Hack? I think to myself, noticing the shadow of a 'S' at the front. I giggle, wondering if people really ever came here. Stan parks out front, and I eagerly step out of the vehicle. I grab my suitcase out of the trunk in eagerness, excited to meet his niece and nephew that dad told me about. At least I'd have some company, as to the fact that there wasn't any service within, like, a gazillion miles. I begin to walk to the house when the screen door bursts open.

"WELCOME TO THE MYSTERY SHACK, Y/N!!!!!" A girl about my age sings, dragging out a boy of almost identical likeness. Her milk chocolate hair sways in the evening light, and her sparkly sweater acts as a natural disco ball. The boy's hat falls off, but he quickly places it back on with a flustered motion.
"Uhm... hello to you to, umm...?"

"The name's Mabel. This is my brother, Dipper, and we're twins! He can be a big grouchypants, though. But I'm all fun!" I laugh, shifting my backpack onto my other shoulder.
"Give the kid some space, Mabel. Why don't you guys show her her room, while I uh... go watch some TV?" Mabel playfully punches in the arm.

"C'mon, Grunkle Stan. Don't be so lazy! You're coming with us!" He sighs, and Mabbel grabs my free arm, leading me inside my new home.
