Saffron
That was it. The hunt for Samuel Meyers had begun, I thought as I sat in the room that I shared with Rhys and unfortunately Lauren. But I was more than ready. Wasn’t I? I’d killed before and it wasn’t just Kyle… I could do this not because I was being made to but because I had a motive. And it was a good one. He’d killed my family. My mum, dad and my brother, I would never get them back. He had to pay. Someone walked in without knocking; I didn’t need to hear his voice to know who it was.
“Saph?” Jared interrupted my train of thought.
I turned to face him. It’d been a long time since we had spoken to each other properly. Of course I still cared about him but he had lied to me. When he was teaching me how to shoot he wasn’t really into it. I had to admit that he was good. Scratch that he was amazing. He didn’t say much about it though. Especially not to me.
“What is it?” I snapped. I hadn’t intended to be mean. Or did I?
He sighed. “Can we talk? It’s just that I don’t really see you when you’re not training so…”
“What do you want to talk about?”
“I’ll tell you later. Just meet me in the kitchen ok?”
I nodded and Jared went.
An hour later I got up and went to the kitchen.
It was quite big for the compound and I’d wondered why, seeing as Rhys, Lauren, Jamie and I were the only ones that didn’t suck at cooking.
I walked into the room. Jared was there sitting on the kitchen surface. He watched me warily. His muscles tensed as I approached him.
“What do you want Jared?” I asked my voice full of venom.
“We have to talk about what you letting yourself in for. Saffron, it’s not right. You can’t just go round killing people just like that! I got you into this mess Saffron and I'm sorry I never meant for you to get hurt like that but I-,” he was cut off by me.
“You can talk, you work for them too!” I exclaimed.
“Not like that Saffron, not like that!” He yelled at me. “I understand how you feel but you can’t… I…” he struggled to put how he felt into words.
“Jared don’t make this any harder than it already is you know I hate doing this to you. I have to do this Jared he killed my parents and my brother I can’t just sit there and wait for him to come for me too. I'm sorry Jared, I really am but I have to do this,” I turned to leave but Jared spun me back round to him.
“What would it take to get you to stay?”
“Nothing.”
“Stay for me. Please Saffron,” Jared pleaded.
“I have to do this Jared.”
“No, I won’t let you,” he growled. “Please, don’t,” he said calmer this time.
“Jared stop trying to get me to change my mind it won’t work.”
He looked into my eyes. He bent his head and kissed me.
“Would how I feel about you make you stay?” he asked with a sigh.
How he felt about me? Oh god… how he felt was a whole different level. “How do you feel about me?”
“I doesn’t matter,” he said. “You’ll get hurt if you do this”
“I won’t, I’ll be careful. I know what I'm doing.”
“No, you don’t Saph. You don’t.”
I was silent.
“Look, I’ve been in this business for ages and I know the danger of it all. This Samuel guy, whoever he is he’s dangerous. If he killed your family then he won’t think twice about killing you,” he said.
“I’ll be careful,” I promised.
Jared shook his head and turned away. I jumped off the surface and held him back by his wrist. He turned around.
“Don’t go…” I whispered.
“Why?”
“’Cause I don’t want you to,” I said. I kissed him softly.
“Even if I stay you’ll still go so what would be the point,” he murmured.
I kissed him again to stop him talking bullocks but a few seconds after that was because it felt pretty damn good. He wrapped his arms around my waist and mine went around his shoulders. He pulled me closer to him. Seconds soon turned to minutes as we stood there stuck in our embrace. He pulled away. He pulled his hand from my waist and turned from me. I watched him puzzled.
“What’s wrong? Why did you…?” I asked.
Jared didn’t answer. Instead he ran his hand through his tousled hair. His hair always gave him a cute bad boy look but at the moment he and his total hotness were pissing me off.
“I don’t believe this! You kiss me I kiss you back and then you reject me? That makes no sense whatsoever.”
“It doesn’t matter, it didn’t mean anything to either of us,” Jared said with no expression.
Ouch, did he really mean that?
“Then why did you kiss me in the first place Jared? Why bother?” I shook my head and left, but this time he didn’t stop me.
