It has been about nine hours since I left my camp in the tree. In those nine hours I found a road and started to follow it seeing where it would take me. Every few miles I would see an abandoned car in the middle of street or on the side. I would look inside every car to make sure there isn't a Zombie inside. Then if not I would see if there is anything valuable that I can use. I find a car that has flares thinking it would come in handy and put it in my backpack. I look at the front seat and see that it still has the keys in the ignition. I climb over to the front and start the car hearing it roar to life.

I do a small happy dance in the driver seat. This is the best thing that has happen to me in a while. Its been a while since I driven a car. If this apocalypse didn't happen I would have been able to drive by myself because I'm seventeen years old. I put the car into gear and start driving down the empty road of Texas. I drive down the road passing Zombies lingering on the highway. Whenever I pass by one it would try to follow me but would fall way back behind to when I can't see it anymore.

A few hours have passed and it's already pitched black outside. So for dinner I eat fruit cups and drink the little water that I have left. I climb to the back seat and lay across it falling asleep knowing that the barriers will protect me from the dangers outside.

I wake up to the sound of a hundred screeching voices and a loud banging on the car. I rise up very slowly to make sure nothing from the outside can see me. I look out of the window and see a herd of Zombies walking around my car. There is one Zombie who has noticed me but didn't bring enough attention to the others that there is fresh meat in here. Which is good, thank God! I look around to see how I can get out. I started to sweat and panic at the same time knowing that I probably won't make it out alive.

I start to take deep breaths trying to calm myself down before I start crying. I whisper to myself, "Think Skylar, think!" I mentally see a light bulb above my head. I need a distraction. I look around seeing what I have that could distract the Zombies. I look around finally remembering that I have a pack of flares. I quickly grab my bag and pull out the flares ripping the bag open grabbing two flares. I look around the car to see where I can throw the flares through.

I look up and see a sky light on the roof of the car. I get all of my stuff and open the sky light and stick my head out and open one flare and throw it far away from the car. Some Zombies notice and start walking toward it. After about thirty seconds I throw the second one near the first one and all Zombies walk toward it. I get down and open the door on the drivers side getting my knife in my hand preparing just in case I have to kill one.

I step out of the car and walk quietly around it. I walk around the car and hear, snap! I look down and see that I broke a stick. I look up and see that some Zombies have heard the snap of the stick and turn around. They see me and start walking toward me. I sprint towards the woods. My back pack is slowing me down. They are ten feet behind me. I'm still sprinting and turn to look around to see how far behind. Not looking what's in front of me I fall and roll down and hill. During my fall I feel a sharp pain spread through my body.

Once I stop rolling down and come to a stop I search where the pain is coming from. I look at my right thigh and see my knife sticking out of me. Red, thick blood spreading through my jeans. At that moment I remembered that I have Zombies still chasing me. I look up the hill and see a Zombie. I quickly find a rock and throw it over the hill hitting a tree attracting all of the Zombies away from me.

I scoot up to the nearest tree and lay my back against it. I look at my wound with my knife sticking out. I need to take out my knife. I give it one tug and it hurts a lot. I tell myself I can do it. With one deep breath I take out my knife and almost screaming out in pain. Tears are running down my face from the pain. I look through my bag for a first aid kit. I take out the kit and get cleaning wipes, neosporin, a piece of cloth, and a big bandage.

I wipe my wound feeling the the medicine sting then put neosporin. I put the big piece of cloth on my wound and wrap the bandage around my thigh making the bleeding stop some. I get some water out of my bag and drink some. I figured I'll stay here for the night and try to walk tomorrow. I take out my bow and arrow in case a Zombie runs into me. Trying to stay awake I finally let my tiredness take over.

☆☆☆

Snap!

I jolt awake seeing darkness surrounding the trees. I let my body take over realizing I'm ready to shoot whatever comes towards me. I see two Zombies come out of the bushes and realize I'm their next meal. I aim my arrow at their head and let the arrow fly hitting my target, watching it fall to the ground. I get my next arrow barley realizing I won't have time to aim and shoot. I put my arrow down and reach for my knife. I let it come closer. Barley half a foot away from me I use my good leg and kick the Zombies legs out from under it.

I use all my will power to sit up trying to ignore the pain from my thigh. I get my knife and stab it in the head. I take it out once it stops moving. After what just happened I try to calm down not letting fear take me over. After I finally calm down I hear another sound coming from the bushes. I look and notice my vision starts to get blurry. I still stare at the bushes trying to ignore the blurriness. Finally two figures appear. Oh great, another Zombie.

My vision getting worse by the second I notice they seem different from other Zombies. Both step closer. I hear the one on the right speak. "It's okay we are not Zombies. I notice that you are hurt, we can help you."

He sounds about my age. Not knowing what took over me but I stand up. Then I realize. My mind is playing tricks on me. Zombies can't talk. I haven't seen a human in forever. For all I know they are all dead.

I take a step closer preparing to fight. The guy on the left spoke with a deep voice,"Put your weapon down! We are not going to hurt you!"

Ignoring what he said I take a swipe at them. They both back up. Before I take another swing at them I fall with a loud thud. The two figures run over to me. The last thing I saw was a teenage boy starring down at me with a scared look in his eye. Thinking that I can't believe there is a human staring at me.
